I bought a 1 GB DIMM for my 910i but my PC won't boot after installing in
slot 3. I have 2 256 DIMS in 1&2. I switched the 1 GB to slot 1 and still no
luck. Do I have to change the BIOS settings first? I have 3 slots and the
manual indicates I can install up 2 GB of memory total.

If you bought the memory from a well known vendor (Crucial, Kingston),
it should be compatible with the system. I note that Crucial doesn't
even list a 1GB stick for that system, only 512MB or 256MB.

I doubt seriously you would need to change any of the BIOS settings to
get the thing to boot, although there are settings for the memory.
You shouldn't have to touch them if they are at the defaults, though.

However, from what I can glean from the manual, you would almost HAVE
to use the 1GB stick in slot 1 or slot 2, and only slot 2 with
something in slot 1.

Have you tried JUST the 1GB stick by itself in slot 1, with nothing in
slot 2 and 3? You might have memory with different operating
frequencies, which is usually a no-go.

There is also this note in the manual I downloaded:

Note: Remove the AGP video card before installing or upgrading memory
to avoid interference with the memory retention mechanism.

Also, that motherboard doesn't support double sided x16 DDR DIMMS -
could be you got sold the wrong type of memory for that system?

All over the place, but maybe some of that will help.

Thanks so much Rich. I'll give it a try.
