Can anyone tell me the difference? Is it worth the upgrade? Where I live
we only have dial-up available and satellite dish, which is very expensive.
Couldn't find much on Google about it? I am current using a V90 eternal
modem with my Dim 8100. Had too much trouble with the internal soft modem.

Thanks

James, check with earthlink to see if they have or except it. I
purchased US Robotics V92 when I was with AT&T but it didn't speed
anything up at that time. I'm cable now.

check out this: http://www.v92.com/about/
it offers call waiting support and theoreticaly better up speeds, but
largely it is not worth upgrading a reliable system.

Earthlink does not support v.92., as of last week any way.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like I need to just stay with V90.

Satellite Internet isn't as expensive as it used to be.
You can get all the hardware for under $100.00 on priceshock.com and the
service is under $50.00 a month.
NOT that I'm suggesting you use it. It really sucks but it sucks less than
dial up.

AFAIK a v90 modem supports download up to 56 k and upload up to 38 k.
a v92 modem supports download and upload up to 56 k.

that's how it works in europe.
but there shouldn't be a big difference to the US-system.

So far as I know, US providers can provide no more than 53k down, nor
guarantee more than 19200k or something close to that.
