Hi group,
Need some help with a Dell Latitude CP M233ST model belonging my niece who
lives with us.
This was bought reconditioned at Christmas for her university studies.
Her father who is always absent abroad on work has set the supervisors
password and will not tell her what it is. He has also set the user
password but has given her this so she can switch it on.
Because of this she can't access the setup and use our printers. She is
only allowed to use the printer at home but she lives with us during term
time and needs to print off her work.
Is there any way to bypass or even reset the supervisors password.
The machine is running W98SE.
We can't even wipe it and reinstall windows as we need to alter the bios
settings to boot from a CD.

Only details we do have are an assembly number of 1421C and a Label number
of 7323C if this helps.
May thanks for reading this

i thought it was a rather creative story, better than most. though i still
like the last post made by a 'ms. steel' (when she probably ment 'steal').

This what I would do. Go to START, click on RUN and enter "regedit" in the
small window. Click OK. This will give you an access to all the registers.
My guess is that your sought for password is in one of them. Click on EDIT,
then FIND and type the word "password" in the window. Key, Values and Data
all have to be checked, make sure. Click on FIND NEXT or simply Carriage
Return. Every next time click on FIND NEXT. This will give you access to
numerous places where passwords are located. You may want to find a place
where you can disable yours. Be patient. - frank

Not the lamest, he didn't say that she was dying and needed to print out her
last wishes before passing on.

When I wrote it I could se that it read both ways and I'm sorry if you took
the cynical approach.
Would it help if instead of signing with my usual full name I signed with
my full address and tel number so if plod wants to check up he can ?
I'll certainly do that if it gets any help.
If you want a real creative story read on :-
It now turns out that we need three passwords.
Two for BOTH the Dell Latitudes that both my nieces were bought for
Christmas and one for my sister in laws main business computer.
He's locked her out of that one and it's not even his or has anything to do
with him. As stated before he's always away abroad but has used the main
computer for email then locked everybody out of it.
This one we can deal with I think, it's the Dell's that will give us
problems.
They were bought for Christmas from a reputable dealer. We have contacted
them and they can't help as they only buy in from companies and only if the
company can supply the passwords so they can be removed.

There must be hundreds of queries for help on stolen laptop's. This isn't
one of them.
If anyone can help and doesn't want to publically then the email address is
genuine as is the post.
Thanks.

About a year ago my secretary suddenly quit giving me a week notice. She
used a Dell desktop as a part of a workstation. She was computer savvy and
she set up all kinds of passwords in her computer which she did not bother
giving me. It turned out that she was out on the lam of the law and I could
not get hold of her for months. My whole office work got frozen. Finally I
called Dell and asked for help. They guided me through the problem. It was a
lesson for me. Now I am always sure I can control all my computers. - frank
