I have a Dimension 9200 which is about three years old now. In the last year
or so I've noticed that sometimes the USB ports will appear to forget that
something is plugged into them. In other words, my mouse, printer, etc. will
stop working but not all at the same time. If I unplug the device and plug
it into a free port or wait a few seconds and plug back into the same port
everything is fine. These issues seem to occur every few weeks or so. Is
this a known issue and do I need to be concerned?

TIA

Brian

I have four of them and have never seen this problem.

Are you sure it isn't software? Perhaps a clean OS install?

First thoughts might be some kinda IRQ conflict or bad install of
software. Easiest way is Tom's suggestion ... install the OS cleanly
and then the rest of your software. I think this will solve your
problem.

First thing I can't seem to do is find the Dim9200/XPS 400 on the Dell
site. I *know* they exist, why doesn't Dell?

I'd suggest updating your system to the latest BIOS if you have not
already. This could resolve the issue. (The Dimension 9100 series
reports USB fixes in BIOS release A02, with the latest release being
A03.)

I'm not that fond of the Dimension 9x00 series systems. There is just
something about them that makes them seem (to me anyway) like they
were quickly thrown together. I like the Dimension E52x a lot better,
and not just because I'm slightly partial to AMD.

Different opinions :)

I find them to be the most robust and well-engineered systems I've ever
owned.

http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=g

You have to look under XPS, not Dimension.

Then it is listed as the XPS410/Dimension 9200
