What does it mean if a Vostro 1500 is running fine (it's been up 24/7 for a
year) but is flashing 4 orange and then solid blue on the battery light?

Starting 3 days ago it began logging disk block errors on a dozen files
(always the same files, it's not a general flakiness).
Starting around now it began flashing the mysterious battery light code.
Battery shows full charge and idle, since it's on the AC adapter.

Run it on battery power alone and you'll likely have your answer. It could
be that the battery has gone tango uniform - or at least one or more of the
cells have.......
