Has anyone noticed that when you price out a system one day the price could
verywell be different another day? I have been priceing out a high-end
Dimension XPS for about a month now and the price swings are phenomenal. As
much as $400.00 for identical systems. Now they are giving away a printer
and camera (free) and this has added over $400.00 dollars to the cost. Mind
you these are identical systems! Is there some deception? Anyone know of a
comparable computer that I might look into?

pricing does change frequently. once you are familiar with the prices then
you will know a good deal versus a not so good one when it comes along.
they offer 30 day price protection based on the actual price (not the
promotions) from the ship date that appears on the invoice and packing slip
(not the order date, not the date that it arrives at you place). if the
differential is over $50 then the credit it the whole amount back to you the
same way that you paid. if you are price conscious, as your question
implies you are, then you will be hard pressed to find anything comparable
for the same money. good luck.

My set up came to a little under $800 eight days ago. Five days ago ,Sunday,
the same rig went for about $1400. On Monday the price was down $150 more by a
rebate that changed within minutes aftre they discovered it would cover buyers
from the previous week.

you are only able to claim a rebate if it explicitly appears as a line item
on your invoice/packing slip. not because one is listed on the web site
after you purchased a system. you can cancel and re-order if you think a
better promotion comes along.

christopher,

are you saying that there is some type of trend with the promotions?

not at all. but there are some promotions that appeal to me more than
others. for instance, i have no interest in a 'free' printer, despise ever
paying shipping, prefer not to send in a rebates but if they are huge i go
for it (since dell is a reputable company with excellent track record in not
only paying them but doing so promptly), and so on... it just pays to know
what the range of prices are so that when a promotion comes along (and there
is always some sort of promotion going on) you can decide if it is a pass or
a go for you. but all that aside, if you need a computer today then buy a
computer today. you are after all protected by the 30 day money back
policy.

christopher,

now i understand what you meant.
