At the bottom of the MSN Bonus page is a link to a Live Online Help
person which I just noticed ...
http://eshop.msn.com/softcontent/softcontent.asp?scmId=596
I just used that link ... here is the conversation I had with Bettina
around 1:50AM Sunday AM EST:
==================================================
Bettina: Hello Kasper, how may I help you today?
Kasper: In looking at the 20% bonus information you list Dell4me under
gift certificates but at the Dell site it says a rebate check will be
sent for 20% of the purchase price. Can you clarify if this is a cash
rebate or a gift certificate.
Bettina: You will need to verify that with the merchant. It appears to
be a rebate to me.
Kasper: Who is issuing the rebate ... MSN or Dell?
Bettina: The merchant.
Bettina: Dell
Kasper: Interesting ... thank you
Bettina: We are here to assist you in shopping. Bettina: Is there
anything else I can help you with today?
==================================================
Others may want to initiate their own conversations to see if MSN is
giving out a consistent story ... I wonder if anyone at Dell can
confirm this?
Kasper

Here are some of the Dell systems I saw. I refreshed the page a couple
of times. After each refresh I saw different systems. MSN said cash
back, Dell said cash back.

I was just told by Dell esales that the check comes from Microsoft. None
of it matters as long as I get it! Dell also noted that their esales server
is backed up and there is a delay in sending out confirmations (which is why
I called.)

I fond more info deeper into the site that says:
a. A gift certificate in the amount of 20% of the total purchase price. Such
gift certificate or check will be issued by Merchant directly and will be
redeemable in subsequent purchases, which purchases may not include the
purchase of gift certificates or a gift certificate award, solely at such
Merchant's site or under alternative terms designated by the Merchant;
That seems to indicate that a check will come from Dell or perhaps, as
noted elsewhere, be credited to the credit card used for the order.

I've decided that there is enough confusion here since there is a HUGE lead
time before you can even see what this rebate really is, so I'm not getting
involved. Since I already have a machine on order this would really foul
things up if I were to start over again and get another delay in shipment.
