I would like to add memory from an unused computer, a Dell Optiplex
GX270, to my current computer, a Dell Dimension 8400. I realized I
only have two open memory slots in the Dimension 8400, so I would only
have room for 2 of the memory modules from the Optiplex but, can I use
them at all or is there a compatibility issue?

Also, I would like to use the Hard Drive from the Optiplex as a second
drive in the Dimension. Is this okay or is there a compatibility
issue with two different drives?

Here are the specs from the two computers. Thanks.

Dell Dimension 8400:

2 F6761 Dual In-Line Memory Module, 512533M, 64X64, 8, 240, 1RX8
1 7J597Hard Drive, 160GB, Serial ATA 7.2K, 8MB, NATIVE COMMAND
QUEUEING..., Seagate

Dell Optiplex GX270:

4 F0598 Dimm, 256, 333M, 32X64, 8K, 184
1 T0732Hard Drive, 120GB, I, 8MEG SATA, Maxtor-CAL

I could be wrong but it looks like you've got 240 pin memory in your
8400 and 184 pin in the GX270.

So that one doesn't have legs.

The hard drives should be fine.....

The memory in the GX270 is older DDR. The Dimension 8400 requires DDR2.
That's the bad news. The good news is that DDR2 is quite inexpensive.

You can use the 120GB Maxtor SATA drive as a second drive in the 8400.
