Sometimes, if you call Dell, they can give you a UPS tracking number
before it turns up on their website. It won't do you much good though.
It won't show up in UPS's tracking system until right about the time it
arrives at your house. Big shippers like Dell have their own
pre-assigned blocks of tracking numbers. They assign these as soon as
the computer leaves the factory. They use bulk shippers to send the
computers to the regional UPS warehouse. So it actually has a UPS
tracking number for a couple of days before UPS even sees it. Also, at
this time of year, the UPS people sometimes skip some of their location
scans in the assumption that their customers would rather have an
on-time delivery thank know where their late delivery is.

Steve, your tracking number should show up 48 hours after Dell says that the
system has shipped.

That's a good one. It will probably show up 1 hour after they arrive at your
door.

Well, I'm just speaking from experience. I have ordered two i8000s
recently. Each UPS tracking number showed up 48 hours after Dell said it
shipped.

My tracking numbers showed up on Dells site 72 hours after the item was
shipped.
