How to remove the back of a DELL Inspiron 1525 laptop??

There is a service manual readily available which tells you everything
EXCEPT how to remove the back.

i.e. I ALREADY HAVE the Dell Inspiron 1525/1526 Service Manual

There are a dozen or so screws on the back which it is easy enough to
remove, and while one corner comes apart, the rest seems firmly stuck
together.

The aim of the exercise is to silence the cooling fan which, for some
reason or other, has taken to hitting something.

The service manual gives detailed instructions on removing the system
board (motherboard), but this virtually involves dismantling the whole
laptop.

You can see the fan through a grille in the back of the laptop, so it
should be accessible if that back is removed..

you don't remove 'the back' (the bottom) of the inspiron 1525. the machine
is built from the bottom up. it clearly isn't what you want to hear but the
fan replacement is done after the system board is removed. look at the
section in the service manual under processor thermal cooling and you will
see that there is no access to the fan from the bottom of the system.
however, you could try using canned air to blow out any obstruction you may
have. first, insert a paper clip or something between two blades of the fan
to prevent the fan from spinning, then blow compressed air into it in short
bursts (to avoid the build up of condensation/water). if that doesn't help
then perhaps you can control the fan speed with software. check this site

otherwise get a new fan and replace the one you have. it is tedious but not
very difficult to do. good luck.
