Compaq Presario 9546 install w95 osr2 and 2nd hard drive

As this computer seems to be quirky compared to the generic clones I own, I
thought it would be a good idea to get some advice here before I try anything.

I want to reformat the original hard drive and install w/95 osr2 and add a
second hard drive formated them same. What do I need to do ? (details nad
potential pitfalls please !) -thanks

You should know that your Compaq has a small partition on your hard drive that has
the software necessary to access the CMOS configuration. If you Fdisk and format
the hard drive you may loose that information. You can however download the
necessary Sofpaq from the Compaq Web site to make a setup disk that will allow you
to configure your CMOS.
You should also know how to save or get new drivers for all of your hardware, such
as CD ROM and Video or Sound cards. You should also have or know how to make a
Boot Disk to install Windows, that will give you access to the CD ROM from DOS,
because you will loose the drivers when you format the hard drive.
If you need more specific information, post back and you will likely get help from
someone here.
It certainly can be done. I just set one up yesterday that had a blank Hard drive
to start off with. It took me several hours of research in this news group to find
pointers to all the necessary information and I had to download several Sofpaqs
and drivers from Compaq, but it really wasn't all that difficult.
