Get this message when booting.....ASSuming I need to replace the
motherboard.
Questions
1. Is this a correct assumption?
2. What are the motherboard specs, or what motherboard do i buy?
and 3. Does Compaq solder in any componets, or is everything removeable?

Thanks in advance
Kevin

Yes, you need to replace the system board, the motherbord is Compaq and the Spare Part number is 235211-001.
If I remember weel there is the audio and video card are integrated on the system board,
cheers
Diego

Kevin,
A 102 system board error is not always a defective motherboard.
You can attempt to clear the CMOS and reconfigure your system. Sometime
CMOS can
get corrupted and report a 102 System board error.

Hello,

"System Board failure error 102" may indicate a problem with the System Timer,
the Internal Battery, or a problem with the motherboard.

However, sometimes the error can be an obscure resource conflict and the error
may be corrected and eliminated by clearing the CMOS and re-establishing the
system's default configuration settings. To do this you can follow these
steps.

RESET CMOS BY UNPLUGGING CMOS JUMPER ON SYSTEM BOARD

You might want to remove any 3rd party hardware, because this procedure resets
the CMOS to the original default or "out of box" configuration settings for the
hardware devices. If the 3rd party hardware is left in, some of the original
resource configurations could be thrown out of "kilter". This does not really
apply to hardware such as RAM, new CPU, or hard drives. It primarily is
pertains to hardware which requires IRQs and other system resources.

For instance, if you have added a scanner, and you had to disable the COM1
serial port for it to use IRQ 4, you might want to disconnect the scanner.
After the system defaults have been reset and the original hardware is
functioning appropriately, the 3rd party devices can be reinstalled and
configured.

1) Turn the computer off, disconnect the power cord, and ground yourself and
the computer against static electrictiy.

2) Open up the case of the computer, making sure you are grounded against
static electricity.

3) Remove the CMOS jumper from the system board for a few minutes and then
replace the jumper.

4) Close up the case and turn on the computer and CMOS will be set back to
factory standard.

When the system boots up, there may be error messages displayed. Pass through
any error messages and choose to "save the changes" when presented with the
option.

Hopefully, this will solve the problem.

However, if the system does not recognize the hard drive with the message "no
fixed disk present" or you continue to receive the original "System Board
failure error 102" error message, you might want to take your system in to a
local Compaq service center to have it checked.

I hope this is of help. However, PLEASE, do not do anything to your system if
you have any uncertainty or reservations concerning my suggestions.

Good Luck, Vtesh
