Hi chaps,

Assuming there is anybody still here..... I'm hopefully a couple of weeks
away from having an adsl connection for my Amiga. I'm connecting it to a
modem/router via a pcmcia ethernet card. I'm planning on staying with
Demon and taking the slightly more expensive option where usenet news is
supported.

The thing is, how does Thor deal with ADSL? I'm clueless.

All the best,
Angus Manwaring. (for e-mail remove ANTISPEM)

I need your memories for the Amiga Games Database: A collection of Amiga
Game reviews by Amiga players http://www.angusm.demon.co.uk/AGDB/AGDB.html

Thanks. I've only used the "Linkup News and Mail" with Thor, and never
really thought too much about it..... I guess it'll become clearer when I
am forced to do it.

Just a thought - my son's pc will be sharing the ADSL modem/router via an
ethernet link, he doesn't do news, or e-mail really - will my news
articles come to my machine - or both?

It seems to me I will have to reconfigure things in some way so as to
establish seperate identities for the 2 machines, Multi-tasking Marvel and
pcfilth, or something. :)

Funny you should say that. I got the modem from Ebay, and its web based
configuration utility has denied me all access, until finally I managed to
access it with Term and its serial port, and reset the bar****d. After
that, I was able to get in no probs. This was down to the settings the
previous user has set, and no, there really isn't a reset button on the
beast. :-/

well, I've got all the bits - and its due to live with Demon in 9 working
days. I feel sure I will be re-reading your advice above shortly. Many
thanks.

Many thanks - I have subscribed.

Can I just ask, all my dial-up stuff is done from scripts, which are
slightly mysterious to me. Is there a utility I can use for conecting to
my isp via the adsl modem/router? Obvioulsy I'd need put in my own config,
but I've just realized I've no idea how this is done.

3 days to Z!! :)

Hi again, well - I'm just about sorted but for some news and mail issues.

The config pages on this US Robotics router turned out to be a bit on the
fiddly side, and for some reason the NAT function was not being accepted
when I saved the config...... until eventually it was. :)
