Just curious if there are any "original" (late 70's) Alpha-Micro people
still around.
I worked there in '77-'78 and have lost touch with everyone.

The name Mike Roach sounds familiar....one'n'the same roach from way back when?

How about Michael Sagar ?

What is the current status of Alpha-Micro ?
Anyone have questions about Alpha-Micro History (trivia) circa '77-'78 ?

I built several IMSAI 8080's to use as test fixtures...also worked on CDC
Hawk and Phoenix drives. tested 8" Shugart / Perscii drives, Built up test
department over on skypark in Irvine, remember playing adventure on
AM-100.

About the only one left today is John Glade. Proper left about three
years ago (he know supports Windows apps) and Currier left a couple
months ago (dunno what he's doing). Last I heard, Bret Halle was
working for Apple after trying to make money writing AMOS software for
a company called DMSI.

Dick Wilcox was working for them until recently (again!) writing
software for a board I designed that runs AMOS on a PC.

I occasionally run into Zane Thomas on the Internet - he's big into
writing Visual Basic books these days (they're really quite good).

David Sun (the designer of the AM-1000, the most popular AMOS box
ever) now owns Kingston (yes that Kingston). Mark Burlington and Don
Mecker both do PC board layout for David (still!).

I worked at Alpha Micro from 1984 - 1995, with the first five years at
Alpha Micro GB.

>What is the current status of Alpha-Micro ?

They're located on Fairview in Santa Ana. I haven't been to the new
building (I left just before they moved in), but I understand it's
quite small. The AMOS hardware business continues still, but gets
smaller each year. They're trying to get into the Windows software
market too.

Gotta be better than running the "stupid" Doctor program in LISP eh?
:)

Yes, I'm that Roach! I'm the Roach who tried to enter myself in the Largest
Roach contest at the Orange County Fair (but the judges wouldn't have any
of that!) I live in Jacksonville now (working for PSS) but I'm not the
Michael Roach that's listed in the current JAX phone book (when I applied
for a loan to buy a car, I didn't have my new phone number memorized so we
dialed 411 to find it; there was another Michael Roach, and because I
didn't have a permanent address yet, we used his instead! REALLY? No, not
really ;^)

I still hate GTE, but of course am with Bell South now. Despite their
initials, the phone service is much better (less problems with modems,
billing remains a ? as I haven't been here long enough to find out!)

I built an IMSAI when I was in High School and it ran a relic from the dawn
of the third age ;^) a 2-board am-100 that eventually got it's own box.

My professional life has been with the Alpha Micro. After leaving Alpha, I
worked for a dealer for several years, The Salvation Army for several more,
and am now in Florida, all with Alpha's. I started using PC's at Far West
Industries, then started developing on PC's at The Salvation Army, and
through it all, Alpha's were there for the most important (usually
financial) stuff, although The Salvation Army is now phasing them out.

|: How about Michael Sagar ?

He was there when I left, but I think he came on board in 1980.

Still developing one of the most solid platforms in the business, great new
hardware, great OS, etc.

What was the ID on Dick Wilcox' plane?

Mike Sagar runs Tech Support at Kingston Technologies - around the
corner and up the street.

I really appreciate that update. I put together quite a few AM-100 systems at the Byte Shop of Pasadena when we were their #1 dealer. Bob Fowler worked there at the time as well.

Hey guys, its Jeff Seldon from The Alpha Exchange, Inc....I hope everyone is doing well. I recognize all the names in the post from that distant past.

I worked for Pacific Systems Group dba Business Computer Systems from 81-84 and then started Alpha Exchange. In the 90's I added a dab of A-net and sold intel based Banyan Vines Systems.

I sold the company in '97 and then worked for the County for three years. I spent the rest of my career at Ally Financial/Ally Bank (GMAC) until I retired in 2014.

Hope all is well. Sometimes I miss AMOS when working on Windows 10 $%^&*.

I keep in touch with Brett Howell, Alan Christensen, Ken Carlson, James Jarboe, James Krakower, Rob Hancock and a few other old timers.

I'm living in Paris now. I'm possibly retired but am also actively learning machine learning. I'm still maintaining an AlphaBasic clone which has been greatly enhanced with features and targets (C++, .Net).
