Realistically, the Abrams isn't as suited for the eaestern European
plain as we thought. At 70 tons it's the heaviest of MBTs. The mud
of Ukraine would kill it or it would be killed on the roads it
traveled on. Remember how the UA made mincemeat of Russia's tanks on
the road to Kyiv? And how Russia's armor sank in the mud during the
spring thaw? It would go even worse for the Abrams. I suspect that's
the real reason for delaying the big, American tank.
As far as paper tigers go, that, in one sense is a good thing. It
means there aren't many countries capable of invading other countries.
A sort of gradual global disarmament that's left the US with the only
military capable of succeeding at such a thing.
Unfortunately, Russia has flexed it's muscle, all one of them, and
it's being slowly, painfully sawed off. China is arming rapidly so
that needs to be dealt with. Ultimately, and this is a *cultural*
comment, not a racist one, Russia is going to have to choose between
European culture or Chinese culture. Already China's economy, at
17.7T is seven times Russia's and it's population is 9 times Russia's.
Beijing will swallow Moscow and pick it's teeth with the former SSRs
in central Asia. Europe will accept Russia as a community member. If
Russia fails to integrate with the west, with eurocentric culture,
China will swallow us all up anyway.
