I have an Led Lenser model L7.
It takes 3 aaa.

When on all is good (ok at least).
When off, if I stick my eye up to the lens it is still on. Very very dim but still on.
I have had pretty good luck with most of my lights but have never encountered this.
Any idea why it stays on or what causes this?

Where is SM when needed? Toss me a sign.

I bought a three pack of Duracell 300 lumen flashlights at Costco. A
few months of no use later I went to use one and the batteries were
dead. The other two were fine. I put in new batteries, they were dead
in a month of zero use and the other two still fine.

What dawned on me is that there is no physical switch anymore. The
push button just tells some chip what to do. I suspect the chip in
question has some sort of leakage.

I get around the problem by the simple expedient of turning it on and
unscrewing the back until it loses contact. A poor man's physical
switch. Then I get normal battery shelf life.

I don't know what a LED Lenser is but if it's expensive, I'd return
it.

Good advice WS. I applied for warranty. I have no printer at home so i forwarded it. 'Sorry'. I loosened the back. It is a good brand but cs sucks.
My Streamlight protac is on my hip. Ledlenser has shit for carry but is a top light in my collection. L7 is not one. Psr2 is charging now from ledlenser. Cordless. Bright and is not "on".

I bought a three-pack of 'TechLites' from CostCo. The tail switch was
supposed to glow red when the batteries were dying. It did do that but
it also drained the batteries. The next generation skipped the fancy
switch and is just a push button. They work fine.

Someone reported similar problem with p7 model in 2010, but no one
figured out why.
<http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?313146-p7-ledlenser-problem>

According to the manual (internet link below), the ON/OFF switch also
serves as an integrated touch-button.

I think this is the cause of the problem. If the switch can be used as a
touch-button, the gap must be very small so that it won't be awkward to
use. If the gap is small, then there might be some slightly conductive
material in the switch that allows a very small current to pass through.

I suspect the culprit is that some electrically conductive oil has
contaminated the switch in the manufacturing process.

Apparently you cannot open the end-cap to fix the problem in the switch.
Then the only solution I can suggest is to spray WD-40 into the end-cap,
and let the WD-40 wash the contaminant out.

WD-40 has very high dielectric property, and it can drive out the oil
and moisture inside the switch.

"Turning the lamp ON and OFF
To switch the flashlight ON and OFF, push the button at the end of the
flashlight.
You can also use the switch as a pushbutton. For this press the button
and release it after that."

That's the dumbest thing anyone can ever think of. It must've been
designed in the USA.

A flashlight will be out of sight and out of mind when you don't use it.
A glow in the switch is not going to draw any attention if it is in the
desk drawer, in your coat pocket or in your backpack.

A smoke detector will warn you that the battery is dying by a chirp
every 30 minutes for many days. That makes sense because a chirp doesn't
use much electricity. It can chirp for many days so you can hear it for
sure.

Problem confirmed... suffering the same issue... :(

p.s.
Probably leaky batteries that have contaminated the switch...

Not leaky. New within a month.

Their customer service is ok. Just ok.

Ive had my LED LENSER p7.2 for almost 3 years now... using it every couple of days, for up to maybe 5 minutes at a time, a few times a day (eg not heavy use)
I can confirm today, that I have now got this issue. My batteries have never leaked. The led stays on after turning the torch off... sometimes quite weak light, sometimes not. I would say it is the switch. Its rather cold today, maybe that has something to do with it... Either way, Ive looked after my torch, and I'm pretty annoyed to have to search a fix for this issue, only to find it seems to be a re-occuring issue .
