How many of you have had the pleasure of running into one them "ol grumpy
bastards"!! that just doesn't give a shit about the statutes the law or
anything that you have to say.
Friday~GPS,RTK,STATIC section ties setting P.O.L's due to a lake @ the 1/4
cor. Gawd he was in a shitty mood you could tell by his gait. I was polite
did the usual BS but no good. He started raising hell telling me about his
"No Trespassing" sign that he has alot of thieves and that anybody can make
up business cards and put signs on their truck,(which completely pissed me
off) so I proceeded to tell him that his sign didn't mean anything to me and
that I was coming on his property no-matter what he said.(which royally
pissed him off). So needless to say I got the Fl Statutes took them to the
local law enforcement (moron's) they went out there w/me and informed him
that it was all legit he was also informed that if the sheriff
had to be called he would be arrested! He say's "on my own land?"
Local say's "Yes" And boy if looks could kill I would've been dead.
End result I did the survey done it on time with a shit eating grin a huge
ego and one pissed off "Ol Bastard" The bad thing is he was yelling the
whole time "I'm a licenenced engineer" as I left his yard I told him that
"Ignorance is no excuse and that he should know better"
This doesn't work this well all the time so be careful!
Well it's calc'ing time again! Ya'll be careful and be safe out there "We
are a dying breed"

You sound like a real professional jerk, learn how to spell licensed
and next time give the person a little courtesy rather then "I was
coming on his property no-matter what he said" Try to act like a
"licenenced engineer"

As a professional jerk, I will only eat so much shit from the "public" after
I have been cussed, threatened, and classified as a "thief" you DAMN right
I'm gonna tell him what I think whether he likes it or not; I mean hell he
just expressed his feelings about the situation so why can't I? Bottom line
is YOU weren't there and don't know the whole story. And I don't want to
act like "licensed engineer" ; I'm a Surveyor (you know the guys that fix
ALL the engineers screw-ups) I must have hit a sore spot with you. You must
be one of those morons.

Im a land surveyor as well, 30 years worth. Maybe if you knocked on
the guys front door and explained what you have to do before you used
gastapo tactics he would have let you go in. If at that point he
disagreed then use the legal method. Whenever I do a survey with many
abuttors I send a letter to each one letting them know that survey
crews will be around. I have also retained many other jobs from doing
this as well.
As far a hitting a sore spot is concerned, I can tell by your writing
the pressure is to much for you to act like a professional of any
sort. we all have had our share of crap from the public. but as a
professional you must deal with this. imagine what this fella is
saying about you. maybe you dont care but your actions reflect on all
of us

:> I didn't get a chance to knock, he was out in his yard when we pulled up.
I did explain the situation to him. I introduced myself presented a business
card & even had the truck (with logo's , strobes , beacons & all on). It
didn't matter. Then he tells me that anybody can make up cards & put logo's
on trucks. That is when he points to the sign and say's " I have alot of
problems with thieves & that's why I have that sign up there" This is when I
took offense, when he classified me as a "thief" is when I told him that his
didn't me anything to me.

Whenever I do a survey with many abuttors I send a letter to each one
letting them know that survey crews will be around.

:> That would be great if we were doing "lot & block" aka: Gags. But
unfortunately we are contracted through the state "DOT" and do whole
towns,cities,ect.ect. we also do consecutive sections ties (up to &
exceeding 100 sections at a time) there is no logical or ethical method to
contact everyone in that massive area (not to mention the money & time for
someone to do that).

I have also retained many other jobs from doing this as well.

:> that's great especially when you live in "Mayberry"

I can tell by your writing the pressure is to much for you to act like a
professional of any sort.

:>I have been surveying for 17yrs. & have an excellent track record about my
"Professional Attitude with my piers and to the public"

maybe you dont care but your actions reflect on all of us

:>I do care about "our profession and the way that we all represent our
companies and ourselves as a whole for what we do & how we protect, preserve
& honor the traditions,practices & teachings of our fore-fathers & fellow
surveyors." I know that ALOT of the general population has no idea of what
we do and that they don't realize the direct role and affect that we have on
them or the world around them.

Bottom line is > I tried being nice,courteous & professional.(with no avail)
For every action there is a reaction (I.E.~ being falsely accused or
categorized as some one your not - natural self defense)
Strong words lead to bad judgment calls(mis-use of power I.E.~ Statutes)

But all in all I love what I do I take pride in my work and my profession
(not everyone can do what we do) and my fellow professionals. This is first
major altercation that I have encountered in all the years that I have been
surveying. When my truck is rolling(which is 6 days a week) it is all work
and my crew & I are all business and whenever possible we try to educate the
public about our profession. I am damn sure not in this business for the
money(cause we know that we are all broke)I'm not in it for the power
plays, head games or the ego boost of putting the local idiots in their
places.

I know that I came on awful strong in the beginning with my first post
but the truth is I went there with a professional attitude and represented
my company with a professional attitude and a sense of pride not only for my
job but also for being part of the "oldest legal profession " in the world
and carrying on a world wide tradition.

I cannot help it that he was in a piss-poor mood and I happened to be the
one that he decided to take his anger out on. But I did apologize to him for
my actions. In which case he became even more furious. So oh-well that's
life and it is something that "we" all deal with on a daily basis, some
cases are just better that others.
