Does that mean that a FAQ already hit ground zero, right in the middle
of always sunny downtown alt.surrealism ?
Everything seems to be destroyed. There are only shadows of the former
inhabitants, such as Andrea Chen, left behind on the pavement.... The
rows of threads have been broken down, and have crumbled. The ruins are
everywhere, stretching into the remote cybernetic deja past....
Is this the END ?
Has alt.surrealism been destroyed ?

Sorry. I started posting in rec.arts.fine again. That's why
alt.surrealism got all quiet. It can't liven without me. Honest.
rec.arts.fine is kind of funny. Someone asked, "How do I make a smooth
background on canvas? Should I use oil or acrylic to do this?"
The responses he got:
1. You don't want a smooth background. The whole point of canvas is texture.
2. Don't tell him what he wants, asshole. Sometimes we need a smooth background.
3. You shut up. You don't know what you're talking about.
4. Use a sponge and acrylics. (That's what I do.)
5. Use a trowel and oils.
6. A trowel? Are you insane? Clearly you know nothing about art.
That would never work in a million years.
7. Don't tell me I don't know art. I've been painting for forty years, buddy.
And so on. I wonder if the original poster stayed around to hear any of
these answers.
Meanwhile Mani, yet another cheap knock-off of Dali, is trying to
lecture me about surrealism, Dali, and showing too much "personality" in
your art. It's pretty funny. Mani can't decide if he is imitating Dali
or not -- but is telling me he isn't -- but says there would be nothing
wrong with his work even if he was. In fact Dali once said that trying
not to imitate the works of others is futile. But, Mani says, he could
never hope to live up to the standard set by Dali. Dali is the master.
But really, none of Mani's paintings actually look like Dali's work
anyway. So I should shut up, because my paintings suck.
Sometimes you don't have to win the argument. It's enough to bask in
the sputterings of the person you're talking to.

PS.
I am a horrible person.

They always levy a heavy fine, for the arts. That's why they are called
the "fine arts"..... Beyond that.... you're right.

Everyone needs a smooth background, for when they get background
checked. Nowadays that is an inevitable tool of the competition.
A flawlessly smooth, bland, surface is requisite.... It's the sign of
the times, isn't it ? Without flawlessly smooth bland surfaces we are
all doomed... That's why they invented melamine and arborite....

What about a nice coat of good old fashioned gesso, then another coat,
then sand it down with 000 sandpaper a little, to get out the
brushmarks. Then another coat or two and sand each time between coats
until it is perfectly smooth.... Then apply the medium and finely ground
pigments with fine sable brushes rather than pig britles.....
It will be smooth canvas. Very smooth canvas.....

Pretty canvas...
<stroke> <stroke>
Pretty, pretty canvas...
It giveth and it taketh away. No one knows the hour except the server
clock.... The internet worketh in mysterious ways. No one looks into the
face of the almighty router and lives.

Yes, I hope that was sexually satisfying.
Now how is your canvasing going ? You must be canvasing for something,
even if it is for more canvas tarpoulins to cover up those nasty bits.
