Sorry Dawn. Been laid low with the flu. Had vague visions about waving my
arms about in a landsacape filled with fire, lava and duck blood
and feather soup. Could not put it on paper. My ravings seemed too real,
not surreal enough! Too surreal? There's only so much people will put up
with, bless 'em!

Concerning Fini. Although she took part in the *International Surrealist
Exhibition* in 1936 she is generally considered to be on the fringes of
surrealism, though for my money the categorisation of art and artists is
a pointless and probably destructive exercise. She is said, though, by
people whose jobs depend on describing and categorising such people, to
have gained her style from Italian mannerism, via Max Ernst, if that
makes sense. My own favourite is called *the Secret Festival* which is
from the mid sixties (62?) and looks almost art Nouveauish. She is
unusual in that she has made a big impact in a field of endeavour where
for some unaccountable reason a very large number of hugely talented
people have been ignored simply because of their sex?! Much of her
painting concerns women and has women as its subject, often looking
secretive and involved in mysterious and conspiratorial activities. If
you don’t know her stuff, I agree with Dawn. Definitely worth
investigation. End of mini-lecture.
