They are the sort of people
who always find out what you want,
so that you can't have any,
then they tell you what you need,
as if they know you better,
when they don't know anything at all.

Ruined years and lost chances,
never getting what you came for,
never knowing anything but blame,
they took everyone you loved,
cancelled your choices, left you out,
scrounging for your spare change.

It isn't the way anyone told you,
as they feed you crumbs of false hopes
until you don't trust anyone anymore,
never knowing a beginning from an end,
they urged you in where you could not enter,
they kicked you our where you got in.

All those friendly people,
but it all amounted to nothing personal,
so you don't know and don't remember me,
I'm knocked down, it's an endless fight,
because when I get anything going,
they always raise every price.

Seems they have put out a warning,
so no one comes this way anymore,
nothing new, nothing borrowed, nothing blue,
there's only your baggage on my train
I'm run right off my rails, no matter what I do,
there is never you, it's all the same.

All the familiar faces,
there are no private invitations,
everyone here remains a stranger,
no one has the courage anymore,
everything is labelled warning, danger,
rumours slip out beneath the doors.

It took such a long time to get
whatever it was, there's nothing left,
having been left behind, and left out,
while you went on ahead, to see it all,
leaving me behind in the shadows,
where I hear only the saddest of stories.

It's like throwing a party,
and no one came.

They kept me waiting,
with nothing to wait for.

It's like having no players,
and playing a game.

They kept me searching
with nothing to find.

It's like holding on,
with no one to hold.

They kept me loving
with no one to love.

A powdering of snow
blurs the afternoon sky,
filling it with falling stars,
sky kissing earth,
lasting a short while,
and disappearing into infinity.
If only we had been as lucky,
her and I,
to touch and melt together for a while
before disappearing into infinity,
but instead I find I am alone,
watching my hair turn to snow,
melting away,
into the mirror of my grief.
