Didn't feel too bad about wimping out on Friday. Heard it was sketchy with many 3rd Reef wash-thrus. To my knowledge no photogs shot from the water. But heard the "smaller" ones were really good.

Decided to give it a try today as the swell was dropping. Still had swell from different angles, making for some dredging action at Gums into Ehukai. I spent over a half an hour anxiously stretching and timing the paddle-out. Was super-fortunate to get out pretty easily.

I'm guessing the surf was around 6-10' Hawn, clean, offshores, with mostly overcast skies. Some bombs still were coming through, including one that mauled just about all of us. Still, over the course of the morning, it felt like it was trending downward.

So stoked to be the only water photog in the water for 2 hours. I was playing it really cautious, mostly sitting on the shoulder. Still enjoyed watching some hard charging, especially Derek Ho. I complimented him on his riding and he said that after riding yesterday, today was a cakewalk.

Lot more photos to go through, but here's a sampling.

Saw this guy at Ehukai afterwards; he looked a little rattled
