much else?? i've surfed Cresent City with success but south not too much.
what about partick point and vicinity, have seen it decent but no one out?
the reason for my inquiry is the job offer thing, not to mention vw friends
who love it down there. i live in coos bay and love the variety of surf N.
and S.. oh, i also heard there is a wave inside the jetty that can get real
good, is this true. thanks in advance for any info. db

Fishing is good...;-)
Eureka has one break, since it sits on the inside of Humboldt Bay.
It takes a 30'-40' swell to make it break. Located by the tallow factory
South of town. Follow your nose, the spot is called "Stinkys".
Breaks right or left depending on how angled the swell is coming through
the outer jetties. More of a longboard spot, kind of rolls, but you can
practice tow-ins here for the real deal located nearby.
Patrick's Pt. is one of the better waves that is not a beachbreak, the
"no one out" part was interesting as it is very crowded these days if it
is "surfable".
Ask for a guy named Spjut...don't be scared...he won't let you drown,
but he will show you some of the other breaks, including "Spjut's Left".

I always thought Stinky's was just a rumor. It must break once every
blue moon, eh? Speaking of spots around Eureka, how are the sandbars
generally at the mouth of the Eel? I would imagine the place could get epic.

Scary sharky...aquarium action...big fish eat littler fish which eat
littler fish. Sand points do form along remote stretches of coastline
near rivermouths. Recon runs in a small plane and/or four wheeling helps
to locate them. 4X4's can still be used on the beaches in this neck of
the woods. One of the fun things about surfing there.
Rivermouth sandbars are a fickle and sometimes very rewarding thing if
you happen onto one going off. For culture, there is a homeless
encampment near South Jetty, that makes Mad Max look
civilized....Stinky's is a blue moon spot. Sometimes it gets so big in
the Entrance, that at high tide ,waves break over the North Jetty and all
that H20 and energy forms a reform that is pretty weird to watch....also
way on the inside of the bay, you can play "micro man pretend" with
perfect foot high cylinders.

Yeah, I heard the Eel was a smorgasbord of sea life but never heard
anything about how the surf was there. The place that intrigues me right now
is south of the Cape. There's a certain rivermouth that seems to produce its
fair share of good waves during the fall and winter months and even though
its not as remote as say.. the Flat, its off the beaten path and smack dab
in the middle of mary jane country. All the reports I've gotten say this
place is worth the trip.
I thought the county kicked all the homeless out of the South Jetty area
a few years ago. From what I heard, the place was going to be designated as
a wildlife refuge or something along those lines and needed to be cleaned up
(much like the Navarro area down here). I keep hearing stories of how
intense the harbor entrance is up there and want a chance to see the place
for myself. Maybe later this winter.

Eurekas pretty fun. I didn't think it was very sharky but everyone says the
central coast where i live is sharky and i dont think so about here either.
Theres a lot of good beach breaks were little creeks come out and make sick
little sand bars. I think the waves are pretty small. And I'm sure it picks up
big swell. Also it sorta seems to me that the probability of having reef breaks
is high since right up the coast is Santa Cruz where there are tons of reef
breaks. Its also not as cold as everyone makes it sound. I had a 4/3 with a
hood, booties, and gloves but i didnt need the gloves at all and they were
totally bugging me.

So Santa Cruz has moved to a spot north of Eureka? Interesting, as is the
statement "I think the waves are pretty small. And I'm sure it picks up big
swell." Yo, sl8er, what on earth does that mean?

There's this other mellow surf spot near the Trinidad boat
harbor...Tourmaline or something like that? You drive down this steep hill
to beach level, and there is or was a community hall down there that I
thought would be a great spot for a wedding or big party. I haven't been
there in a decade or so, but I remember nice little summer waves...some
locals turned me on to the place after I helped them access the hot tub at
the motel we were staying at...
