So I was looking around today for a good resin tint scheme for the new
board, I remembered Austin Surfboards had posted some amazing resin
work on Swaylocks.
So I go and check out their site, and who do I see?

Friggin’ ex-govment slacker!

Dang Rod, that guy makes some nice looking boards. One of the
standouts on the east coast (In my humble opinion), the shapes remind
me a bit of Larry Mayo and Cooperfish. I think Austin’s shapes lean
more toward Cooperfish and the pinline work also trends more in that
direction although he certainly has his own unique take on the resin
side of things, quite distinctive with a ton of depth.

Anyway good stuff Rod.
Oh yeah, I will be right down the street from you and Foon come the
week of July 4th, if there is a swell we may have to connect for a
dawn patrol.

Andy (although that is a long drive...)

Are you going to be in DC or OC/Md? Yes, if there is some swell we
should go.

Austin is very good at his trade. Did you know he has started a paipo
line fashioned after my design? Sold over 100 of those boards over the
past two years, all over the country (Maine to FL, Gulf Coast, San
Diego to WA and the Great Lakes) and overseas (Europe, Australia,
Hawaii, etc.). Austin also does outstanding board restorations (now if
he only could do body restorations!).

I hope you got residuals on those sales ;-).

On the Whye (or Why or Y) River.

You mean like a shoe line?

I could dig some comfy paipo flip-flops, but would they be real small?
Like you know like a size 13 would only cover 1/2 of my foot?
Cause those are small boards, is it a whole small trend thing?
He could angle it in with the downsizing economy.

or is it a clothing line?
Or are they 1/2 shirts?
That is great but those 1/2 shirt things are sort of well... not in my
current clothing rotation.
But hey congrats.

Oh shit! Sorry I started to type too soon, I see now.

It would be neat if they put your face on the board.
does he have a tag-line?
Like Rodapo
Paipo-Rod-o

; )

We wouldn't want to hurt sales now would we?

The success in producing all those boards is driven by a number of
factors. But the singular key to success was placing the paipo line up
on his website along with the other model boards, having boards in the
show room and actually riding them some (his dad rides regularly).

Ahhh...that's right. I never remember who's on Del, who's on Mar,
who's on Va.

Well, if you boys come down this way, I'll have to get to the beach.
At least it isn't wetsuit weather anymore.
