I went down to my local cafe' for some caffeine and a quesadilla (con
aguacate y frijoles) and found a frou-frou art&wine festival blocking
the street. Figuring there must be some rich cougars on the prowl, I
took a stroll. Sure enough, there were plenty of those to make it
worthwhile, but surprise, I found an old acquaintance - Nick Mirandon.
( I graduated from high school with his brother, Barry.) He's been
doing some cool resin paintings for a while now. They really are
beautiful - glossy abstracts that look like photos from the Hubbel
telescope, or seascapes of feathering waves. We got to talking and he
told me the _other_ side of the Florida trip with BA. Put the two of
them together and you might discern the truth. It seems Nick really
_did_ try to bail BA out of jail, but the police wouldn't let BA go.
Makes you wonder what BA did while behind bars to deserve such
treatment. Also, Nick thinks that Martin Luther King was in the same
jail at the same time. Interesting. One part of the Florida escapade
that I never heard from BA was the swamp story - something about a
girl and a lot of mosquito bites where they really shouldn't be.

I met another old friend at the art fest. This was an old BS friend
who sold his graphic design business and turned into a full-time
artist. hmmm. Seems like a common occupation for geezer surfers. I
think I'm in good company.

How's the art going, Turby?

How was this unruly but sizable windswell down your way?

We had head high - overhead waves, but even Rincon could only do so
much to straighten out these waves.
I called in "stoked" and surfed all day.

AwoooOOoo!!!!

It's been fun here for a while. Day after day of decent to excellent
waves. Yesterday was the best. OH+. I sat on the outside and picked
off set waves while everybody else scrambled on the inside. I'd stroke
back after a long ride and wonder why no one else wanted the outside
peak. Fine with me. Juice like I haven't felt in a long time. A total
gas. Spent the whole day at the beach and did 2 sessions. The crowd
was never more than 11, but lots of people caught it. Yeehah.

Art? Oh yeah. I'm still clearing room in the garage and collecting
materials, but the main focus now is on a couple of retaining walls to
keep my property from falling into the canyon. It's all good. I get to
use my design skills on the shiplap 4'X4" wall that is on 3 levels
with a variety of branches and slopes. There are a couple of gallery
shows here that run the gamut from boring huh? to inspired magic. I
think my stuff will fit in between. Check out Tara Donovan's work.
