Morning started off looking sweet

Again, Backdoor was way better, but only two were allowed on that side
and the "real" pro photogs were there. I stayed on the Pipe side.

Kelly Slater had a great quarterfinal, and thankfully snagged a sweet
one going left (cropped all kinds of ways).

I had some very bad timing. Did a self portrait and my head blocked
the controversial Dingo leash pull on Damien. I bodysurfed a wave and
was out of position for Novak's nice Pipe barrel. Then I swam in and
missed Dane blowing up going new school.
Congrats to Taj who beat Kelly in an anticlimactic final. The "Show"
is finally over. Hopefully the North Shore will mellow just a little.
Aloha from Paradise

I was glued to the computer watching the contest. The surf was great
right up to the end of the quarters. Sad how the waves just fell apart
for the finals. In almost every heat throughout the contest, the
surfers that waiting for the good waves lost. Those that kept busy,
found some nuggets and moved ahead.
