I have good and bad feelings regarding it. It was a pretty big step for
me since my surfing has sucked so bad now a days.
The first day we surfed outside of DD's place. Now to be called, Double
D's. Waves were knee to waist but tons of fun. Edmond and Rod and Dee
Dee were out. I liked those waves that day. Water and air nice and warm.
It was so peaceful and beautiful.
Second days waves were ok as well. With strong NE winds the Lighthouse
was nasty. Some Asers took it on but I passed and traveled south to the
Frisco pier and had it all to myself for hours:-). That was sooooo
sweeeeet. I really like it there and it in now to be called Todd's
secret place;
Third day I had passed it on to the fellow asers about my secret place
and that was again the call. It was a lot colder air wise though and I
was freezing in my trunks and rash guard. Also, I am afraid the bells
palsy might come back in the colder wind on my face and ears, so I got
out. The same thing happened the next day and I didnt even paddle out
because I didnt have a wetsuit as I didnt think I would need one there.
But the air was even colder on this day and I just didnt want to risk
the bells coming on again, so I sat on the beach with Rod and Kc's wife,
Lana..[who is really cool to hang with}........But I was pissed that the
air was that cold and wind blowing that hard and I couldnt go in. Anyone
who knows me knows how bad I wanted to be in there, but safely. Lots of
ASers out at my secret spot and it was great fun to watch them.
KC had the ride of the day for me when he was cruising on a wave with
his hands behind his back. He looked like AS royalty!!!!!!!!!!
Edmond was impressive on his new 8"2" board. Caught lots of backside
waves.
Ferg and Andy are just down right smooth as anything. A delight to watch
it done so well. Neal was catching his fair share as well.
When Rod was out it was cool to see him stylin on his paipo. I would of
liked to see him on some big surf though. It looks pretty cool.
And Dee Dee was outh there paddling around like crazy too:-)
One of the more fun things we did was go up to the Oregon inlet and Pea
Island and four wheel drive it.....[andy, ferg, neall, dee dee and
me:-)]...... That was awesome!!!!!!! We found tucked in at the end of a
cove a totally cool looking little long board wave. Hey guys, it was
actually breaking in long lines today as I passed by, maybe even knee
high!!!! We MUST surf it in the future as an AS experience.
So, meeting Foon and Rod was awesome. Especially Foon because he has
been around a long time like me:-) Rod and everyone was very friendly
and all easy to get along wiht. They were nice enough to let me have the
main bedroom with my own bathroom. Thanks sarge!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But the bad thing is because of my hearing impairment, there were quite
of few asers I just couldnt hear, so I avoided them. That is what I
have learned to do after forty eight years of dealing with it. So, it
was very uncomfortable for me with all the people in the main area and
the tv always on or music being played.
So, overall it was great. Oh yeah, surfed twice when dolphoins were
going by. How cool is that??????
I am to tired to write more, I heard Lemmons made a comment to me
somewhere but I cant find it.
Thanks Foon and Rod and KC for putting it together. And Dee Dee for
driving down my board!!!!!!!!!!!!!.............todd.

If it's true that the best surfer is the one who's having the most fun,
you're in line for the trophy.
On that note, who got the thermos?

I would of been uncomfortable with the TV always on also.
I know this would of instigated great controversy but I would
of done it anyway... I would of turned the TV off.

On my Cool-O-Meter, that registers. When they surface nearby, the needle
flicks up. When they jump out of waves or surf nearby, that's massively cool.

Todd, it was great to have you down man. Having met you I now have a much
greater appreciation for your stoke, your dedication and for you as a man.
You are top shelf bro. Glad to see you enjoyed yourself and are eager to
repeat this gig next year. The place and the people were fantastic. Your
presence here lent a great deal of motivation and inspiration. Thanks for
sharing your not so secret spot with everyone. You do keep
different hours though :) I now have adopted your official definition of
dawn patrol -"When I get up." Next year you bring the wetsuit just in case.
-Foon
Hey Todd, I had a blast with ya and the rest of the gang. You know I
should have been more considerate about your hearing. After all no
one was really paying attention to the TV anyway. Next year we will
have calmer winds and the decks will be a better place to chat. surf
on!

Love your report, Todd - I think getting together with our 'strange
family'- the sharing of space and waves -- is a big step for anyone.
Sounds like you and Dee Dee were the bright beams of light ... and
that this was a kinder, gentler GP than ever. Good to be with good
people.

LOL .. Way, way cool ... I am quickly reading through all the reports
... love the stories of "Todd's Secret Spot" ... the 'awards' nite (?)
... the menu, of course ...
Break out the pics, folks! (Who is doing the web page?)

No prob....but I never got reimbursed!!! No biggie actually next year will cost
me less.. =)

It was great surfing with you. I think you
are a strong contenda for Iron Man, with
being in trunks and rashie while every
one else was in full and spring suits!

Very kind words indeed Foon. Thank you. I believe the same can be said
for you:-)
I hope Lemmings can make it next year:-)....todd.

Huh??? Kinder, gentler??? No question that D2 and Todd were great folks
to share our surfing days but I can't take anything away from *any* of the
others.

Probably many of us will post to our pages--I will also post to the GP
page all pics that are forwarded to the GP listserv.

P.S. Sus, you too would be a gently burning light at the GP!

Ya, who did get the thermos???

Well, we all know you are the official recipient,
but you forfeited to Keener, and Keener never replied
either. Therefore, I left it in the responsibility
of the rest of the GP crew since I had to leave early. It
was my intention that on the space for the 2001
winner, it be your name with a "in care of" designation
to whoever ultimately receives it. Whether that
ended up happening, and who ended up getting it, is
a mystery to me too.
But I'll say this here and now: If Surff even *thinks*
of giving me grief for this situation, I'm gonna tell
him to redirect his misguided thinking that it is
*I* who disrespected the thermos, to directing it
to you and Keener...I practically *begged* u guys
to take it, but there was no response. Is that
disrespect for the thermos, or what?! <insert smiley face here>

SAY WHAT??!! Replied to what? I rode 12500 miles to get that frickin
thermos, and you guys switched the dates on me! Not only that, but I
spent a lot of time on the Cape looking for the house, but you
switched that, too, and you didn't leave many clues which house it
was, so I couldn't leave the surprise "gift" I was going to leave you
guys. Hell, I think you guys went to a lot of trouble to make sure I
_wouldn't_ get the damn thermos.

Tom, they had lots of alterior motives for switching the dates
from september. B-days, waves, etc.

Ha ha ha ha ha!!! But, there was no Cake but plenty of Nachos! Hope to
alternate Sept & Oct but it's unlikely Sept will be a big draw for western
