Misty rain and totally overcast skies pervaded the morning hours. Surf
was down island wide, and winds were expected to pick up and rain
continue. Where to shoot? Decided to chance Sandy Beach.
Driving out I was encouraged by some patches of clear sky. Maybe might
have some light after all. But the surf initially was pitiful. Just
knee-high waves tubing on rare occasions. Jumped in anyway just to
stretch my legs.
First dip I realized I'd tweaked my neck from the night before. Damned
dog stole my pillow! So I was crippled, trying to punch through
wavelets without turning my neck.
Made the most of conditions as usual. Surf seemed to become a little
better for a bit. For fun I tried shooting with my right hand. I'm not
really ambidextrous, but there are advantages to shooting with the
"outside hand." So many subtleties that's hard to translate from hand
to hand, but it was fun anyway.
Finally went in and as I was showering, a huge gust of wind kicked up,
starting some firm winds. Good timing.
