August makes a fine longboard out of Orange County. Hynson makes his boards
out of San Diego County.

Hynson got lost in his massive ego and his penchant for illegal
substances. He's back, stylin' on the waves and impressing the heck out
of himself. He did some shaping, but has not exactly gathered a cult
following for his masterpieces. All but faded from obscurity, he scored
125 on the Y2K exposure meter - ranking who got how much surf press ink.
For purposes of comparison,
1. Kelly Slater 32,375 points
2. Shane Dorian 22,900 points
3. Bruce Irons 18,900 points
Oh, yeah, August also got 125. I suspect Surfgeo2 could get 125.

August has kept a low profile in terms of law breaking. He's a highly
successful shaper and surf shop entrepreneur.
August was also in ESII; Hynson wasn't invited back.

Does anyone know where I can get his autograph????
David
PS. Does anyone know where I can get an autographed picture of Bob Denver
("Juuuuuust sit right back and you'll hear a tale....")???
He and some of the surviving cast of GI show up on the Olympic Peninsula
every few years & sign autographs, take tourists on 3-hour cruises, etc.
So if you dare go looking for the Sandman, you might run to Gilligan,
and Mary Ann, and....
There is no truth to the rumor that Sandman lives there just to be close
when they show up.

Wow. Unless it was a charter surf trip, I'd guess less than 10 people
on a jam-packed 747 would know who Robert August is. In the big
picture, being a surf celebrity ain't much of a celebrity.

The only reason I even made the connection between his mug and his name was when I
spotted him signing an autograph for some kid and his father at the Gate and was
thinking "wow, that's cool". Later I noticed he was wearing a RA shirt. I assumed he
was going to be first class, yet he was back in the incognito seating.
Maybe he should stick to boards and autograph sessions.
