Folks

Just had my Vasectomy last Thursday night. Over in minutes and relatively
pain free until the following day. It has now been 6 days and I am a little
concerned. The right side is great with no pain at all and am just waiting
for the stitches to disolve. The left hand side is extemely painful and and
excutiating to touch There appears to be be 2 pockets of pain and they feel
slightly like a bundle of spagetti about the size of a thumb tip each.

Not sure if this is normal, perhaps someone here could give me some guidance
before I bother my doctor.

Cheers

Colin

Hi Colin,

The best advice anyone here can give is to give the doctor a bell and go
back so he can check it out. It could be a number of things, but if it's an
infection, then the sooner you get treatment the better. Are you taking any
medication for this at all?

Don't worry about bothering your doctor - they really don't mind. Besides,
it's what we pay them for! Please go back and get him to check it over.
Don't take no crap from the receptionist if she tries to book you in for a
month's time - insist on speaking to the doctor direct.

Ice!

While waiting to see the Doc and after; lots of Ice, as much as you
can stand. The usual 15 minutes on - 15 minutes off; as often as
possible. Ice will reduce swelling which can cause pinched nerves (or
at least nerves under pressure) and numbs the area for temporary
relief. If possible stay prone to make it easier for blood to drain
away and not accumulate. Jock strap when not using ice.

Could be infection, could be bodies immune system trying to repair,
could be nerve damage, lots of things to go wrong; body usually heals
itself the best it can, putting scar tissue in place to protect
injured areas.

Ice also signals the body to repair with a different reaction than
heat, the restricted blood vessels reduce swelling, but also run the
blood faster so as to get damaged cells out quicker. Ice has also
shown to reduce scarring even scars from long ago wounds.

God's Speed,

Steve L

David is right. See your doctor. It could be you are experiencing
sperm granulomas, caused when sperm leaks and the body reacts. They
can be painful, but usually resolve on their own. Treatments include
hot baths or anti-imflammatories. Certainly don't hesitate. My doc.
scheduled me for a check-up a week after. If an infection, which is
also possible, it should be treated.
Let us know how things turn out.

Well guys just thought I would update you on current events around the left
hemisphere. Saw the Doc late last night and confirmed that it is an
infection. Now on antibiotics for the infection and Aspirin for the
swelling.
This morning felt great, however by lunchtime the left side has swelled up
so much the you could barely hold it in one hand, unbelievable pain (not
true because many of the stories indicate similar -but indulge me as these
are my testicles) and the wound is weaping.

Phoned my doctor and saw him within 20 minutes. (Great doctors surgery by
the way) Infection is outstripping the antibiotics and I am to up the
dosage and keep an eye on it till Saturday. If no progress by Saturday to
get back in touch.

Thanks for the support guys and I love the Website. Only wish I had found
it before I went under the knife. Would have certainly saved some
embaressment around shaving for starters.

Cheers

Col

Hey Colin,

Glad to hear you are now well in hand. Infection does seem to happen
a lot. In retrospect, I'm glad my doc. gave me a few days antibiotic
for afterward, "just in case." (I know they are not supposed to
prescibe abx loosely like this, but I keep thinking it may have spared
me your pain!)

You mean you didn't do the shaving at home and they did it for you?
We warned you!

You mean you didn't do the shaving at home, but let them do it for you?

Hi guys. Just to let you know I had not dissapeared but have spent since
Friday night in hospital. It turn out that I did not have an infection but
a heamothoma. The bleeding had filled my scotum and had just about fill my
penis up completely when I was taken in. Enforced bedrest and monitoring
followed and I was released this morning as the swelling had gone down
considerably. There is still some bruising and residual pain. I have been
recommended to remain in baed at home for the remainder of the week.

On the issue of shaving - no, I did not let them do it - I was given a very
dubious hospital razor and made to do it myself. Not easy without a mirror
or help.

Cheers

Hey Colin, Glad you got the diagnosis and they have treated it. We
hear of hematoma here occasionally, and it always sounds
scary--colorful swelling, pain, hospital stays. But it always seems
to come right in the end. Hope you continue on the mend. Keep us
posted. (On the bright side, maybe the hair growing back will be
easier to bear without underwear and pants, so the bedrest will be a
blessing!)

What did you expect? A gaggle of admiring nurses?

Colin,

Don't worry about bothering your doctor go and get it checked. I had my
vasectomy three years ago and have been suffering ever since as like others.
Who did you have it done by?

Steve
