After 3 months of mild pain the docs finally agreed I had epiditymitis. I
had pain in the lower abdomen, which occasionally shot down towards my right
testis, and over 3 months got progressively worse. They have prescribed for
me Indomethacin for swelling (which seems to make me sleepy and woozy) and
Doxycycline (which seems to be an antibiotic). I am beginning my 4th day of
the treatment right now. I notice a decent improvement over pain, but it
has not gone away. I also feel like I ran a marathon all the time. Ugh.

I remember taking things like Tetracycline for streph-throat back when I was
a kid, and all symptoms disappeared after 3 days. I'm wondering if the
Doxycycline is really working, or if it takes longer than 4 days for it to
totally go away? Has anyone else taken this drug, or does anyone know if
symptoms should still persist (at about 1/2 pain level) after 3 days? How
long will this take? I'm supposed to take this for 14 days.

Thanks,
Mike

PS Finally zero count at 3 months and some change!

That sounds like a normal duration. I got a post-op infection and was on
Cipro for something like 20 days. Gaack. I didn't see improvement until about
day 6 then it rapidly resolved.

I strongly advise you eat a lot of yogurt that has active bacterial cultures
(like Yoplait or most other high-end brands, it'll say on the package),
because the Doxy is gonna kill all the good bugs in your intestines and you
will get a King Kamehameha Case of the trots if you don't.

It's been 10 days and I'm done with the Doxycycline is gone. The pain is
much less, and I have about another 10 days of Indomethacin. During this
time, my stomache hurt a lot (which is typical) but the pain has gone away a
LOT.
The doc recommends taking the anti-inflamatory for another 2 months (?!!!)
until it's gone entirely. I'm confused though, that there must be a reason
why the inflamation of the epiditymitis is there in the first place, and
taking this high-level asprin is going to solve anything? My wife suggested
that when you get a cut, the wound stays inflamed for some time, and
internal wounds take even longer, and that the Doxycycline solved the
problem and now the swelling needs to go away, and though it would on its
own, the Indomethacin will help make it feel better.
Yesterday during masterbation at the end there was a sharp pain at the base
of my um, penis and then I couldn't urinate for about 8 hours (?!) Now it's
okay but urination is much less. Did I break something??
