I had a vasectomy about three weeks ago and am still experiencing dull
aching pain in my testicles. The pain seems to move back and forth
between the left and right side. I definitely feel pain if I try and
bound up a flight of stairs or run. My doctor has told me that
everythig looks normal in terms of signs of abnormal swelling or
possible infection. He is attributing the pain to "back pressure" and
said that it normally equilibrates in a week or so after surgery. I
feel better when I wear a jockstrap so I have started to wear one most
often. I have no pain when I ejaculate.

Has anyone else had this? How long did it last? I used to run
several miles per day, but now can't fathom the idea of running. Can
someone tell me a good story and that this will get better?

I wore a jock strap for at least two weeks to deal with the kinds of
pain you've had (esp. on stairs). For awhile I even wore it to bed,
to prevent turning wrong and getting that wrenching feeling. (Of
course, I took it off for special occasions!) As for the back
pressure pain. I'm not sure, but I might have had some of that the
first year. It was very mile and I only got it the day after either
long delayed ejac. or two ejacs in one night. (I thought of it as a
sex hangover, and I always thought it was worth it.) Anyway, after a
year it was gone altogether. After 4 years I only feel discomfort
down there if I go more than two days without ejac.--but I'm not sure
that is new.

Just keep an eye on your incision site for swelling and redness.
Also make sure you don't have a fever all signs of an infection. These
symptoms all sound like the after effects of a closed ended vasectomy.

Nab,

It's been 16 weeks now, since mine, and I have experienced what you decribe.
It has subsided over the time since the op, but I still feel it a little at
times. I also, until recently, have felt tenderness down there. For
example, when I move the sack around when showering, I have felt slight
pain sensativity. This seems to be starting to go away now (and it's been
4 months!).

I suspect (like Trifold is saying) that it will fade with time. I had an
ache in my right testicle almost 20 years *before* the vasectomy, and this
also faded with time, but it came back a little stronger right before the
vasectomy (could it have been my thinking about it, or feeling around down
there more, who knows?).

Anyway, this could have been blockage (my guess) - the docs never knew what
it was. Perhaps I was never fertile on the right side - again, who knows.

Let us know how things change as time goes by. I suspect the doctor's
statement of "a couple of weeks" doesn't apply to all of us. It can take
time for things to settle.

Joe,
An odd sidebar to my vasectomy on friday was that my left side vas was
1/2 the size of the right. The doctor commented that I was probably
sterile on that side and that it was a congenital defect, not from the
mumps I had as a child. He said that he's seen this before, but it's
very rare.

Waiting to test drive the new vasectomy!

Took me around 2 weeks to be all back to normal. But I did get back to
normal.
