i had a vasectomy 7 days ago. the procedure itself was not bad at all.
the 1st 3 days i had a little swelling with hardly any pain. in the 4-5
days my right testicle has swollen up and is very tender to the touch.
consideribly more than any of the pain of the actuall surgery or
following days. now in the 6-7 days the swelling is still severe in the
right side with pain up in to my stomache. my left side is fine and is
not tender. the other problem i am noticing is i can not get an
erection. i dont know if this is due to the pain in the right side os
just in my head. my doctor told me after 3 days the swelling should be
gone and after 5 days i should be back to normal and able to resume
having sex. his office is closed untill moday due to the holiday and
just need to know if i have anything to be nervous about or is this
normal and the doctor was just being over optomistic about the recovery
time?

I'm sorry you're in pain. Everybody responds differently, so I can't
tell you what "normal" is. However, if you've got a lot of pain
radiating from the site, running any kind of fever or generally feeling
like crap, it could be an infection. Let your doctor know about this.

As far as not being able to stand at attention, don't worry too much
about that. My fellow went and hid until the swelling went down. I
think he wanted an apology. I was worried about that as well until I
woke up with a full bladder about a week later. Nature took care of
things.

If you're still having problems once the swelling is down, I'd go check
with the doc.

Good luck to you and your boys. Remember, shooting blanks is not as bad
as not having a target.

Apparently I'm QUITE sorry about the pain. Not sure what happened to
cause the multiple posts, but I'm sorry.

Did you use ice right after the surgery? Did you do anything strenuous?

As others have stated, it IS quite normal to have "some" pain after
this procedure. I was in pain after the freezing wore off and then I
felt great; so great in fact that I went shopping for some new
sneakers...later that night I was even RUNNING upstairs between
commercials!

Boy....did I ever pay for that!

Within a week, I felt as if someone was constantly kicking me in the
'nads! You know that feeling that goes into your stomach and even out
your back? Two weeks of this I endured before I could get back in to
see the doc. Advil took the "edge" off but never eliminated the pain
entirely.

Within a few days AFTER seeing the Uro, the pain started to ebb...ice
and Advil was the order of the day. I got to talking to several
co-workers who had also been "fixed" and they also recalled some pain
for the first few months following...
Subsequent visits to the Uro did nothing to allay my concerns
either...he said that it was quite "normal" to experience some pain for
up to 2 years after...it has never been of the same intensity as during
those two painful weeks, but I still get a twinge every now and then,
and like you...always in the right side!
The only advice I can give is to "grin and bear it".
Some will say to wear a jock or some supportive underwear, but for me
these only made it worse as everything was jammed together and not
allowed any sort of free movement.
When the right-boy starts to act up, I leave him alone as much as
possible...maybe an ice pack for a half hour or so at night...the
episodes last about a week and each time the pain is less
intense...hope it continues this trend!
The right side also seems to ride a bit higher than "before", but then
again I can't really say since I never paid as much attention to my
testicles as I have since the procedure!

As for the "dysfunction"...it still happens to me on
occasion...whenever I am having an "episode". Any pain will make me go
as limp as a rope, and my wife even knows that for the time being, the
scrotum and associated equipment is out-of-bounds.
Funny how one side seems to hurt more than the other...I wish BOTH were
as easy to get along with as mr. lefty...
