I had a varicocele on the left also and had post vasectomy pain on the
left. About 2 weeks of unbearable pain I went back to my urologist and
he did an ultrasound and discovered that my epiditymus was swollen
twice the size. All he told me was that to expect a long recovery and
prescribed an anti-inflammatory drug. I have read a lot about this
since my vas (almost 2 years ago now) and it seems as though it takes
quite a long time to recover if the epiditymus is swollen. I went back
to get a second opinion from another doctor after about six months and
he said about the same thing. He discouraged me from further surgery
for which I am grateful because I have read many bad experiences from
those who did. He told me to start running again and to wear a jock
strap. I now wear a jock strap all the time and I am almost back to
normal. I really think doctors should counsel better on the possible
side effects of a vasectomy especially if there are pre-existing
conditions such as varicoceles or hydroceles (I have one of those too).
Good luck,
Joe

Before you buy.
I can't speak to the issue of varicoceles or hydroceles, but my
experience has been an elogated (no pun) period of discomfort from my
traditional vas. I am improving. But, it has been around 75 days
since my procedure and I still have the occasional discomfort around my
right testicale (where the urologist had trouble find the vas). I
realize that I am in the minority and based on feedback from others and
my urologist, as long as the pain doesn't worsen, "give it time" is
what I have been hearing. I hope the same applies to you. Good luck!
I have no regrets!

I'm 13 days post op myself, and I had new bruises appear around day 7, with
attendant tenderness. I was really pissed because I was getting so much
better after day 3, it was like a relapse. The bruises are mostly gone now,
except on the left side. Did you have one or two incisions? I have an
incision on the right, which makes me think that the left took more digging
around trauma, so the bruises had to "work their way up" to the surface.
I too have heard all the "Had a snip and had sex that night" or "Back to
riding horses on Monday" anecdotes, and that has most certainly not been my
experience.
I think the variance in healing time is normal, you and I just seem to be on
the long end of the healing continuum.

I agree - Bruising can last longer than two weeks, and often develops after
a few days anyway. I'd go back if you feel things aren't improving, but as
Jason says we all heal at different rates
