Hello, looking for some reassurances really. Had the operation on Friday
afternoon and since then have had swellling and pain in the testicles,
mainly left side. I can minimise the pain by lying down, but the act of
standing up and everything 'falling downwards' is very painful in the
testicles and also the groin in general.. Sorry for asking these questions
so early on, but everyone else I know who's had the op seemed to be OK the
day after and had no problems. The testicles are very tight and don't seem
to want to drop.
Thanks for any reassurances you can give me. Searches on the internet seem
to reveal a real myriad of problems that people have had .. all doom and
gloom. Certainly not what I want at the moment.

I'm going to call the surgery tomorrow. Maybe there's an infection going on
or something.

Best regards

Dave

Are you wearing a supporter?

Even while lying down sometimes it made me feel better.

First off, what you are experiencing is not abnormal. Men do experience some
degree of discomfort in the days following the procedure. Those who had no
discomfort, bruising or swelling are really in the minority.

What helps a great deal is wearing a proper althletic supporter (jock strap)
day and night for a couple of days, and whenever you feel you need a bit of
support in the days after that. Briefs don't provide support, and tighter
briefs still dont - they are just uncomfortable. Boxers, don't even bother!
A proper size jock is comfortable to wear, and provides lots of support. You
can get them from sports stores such as JJB.

What also helps is to ice the area with frozen peas/corn - helps reduce the
swelling. Take things as easy as possible.

You might like to have a chat to the doctor or a pharmacists on what
medications will help, but don't take anything with aspirin in it.

Most men with no problems simply don't feel the need to go on the web with
"How good it was for them", but men who had a bad experience naturally will.
The bad stories are disproportionate to the good ones.

According to the official UK statistics for 2002, some 18% of men aged
between 19 and 69 have had a vasectomy. If a small percentage of those men
weren't satisfied I'm sure we might have heard more in the media about it
than we do.

Thanks for your kind words chaps. I am going to call the surgery tomorrow
and I'll also take your advice and get a proper athletic support. It's
really weird this. Lying or sitting down, it's not too bad but try and stand
up and .... phew !!

Still loads of swelling and it's all down one side. The other side seems
fine. Gravity is certainly not helping me here!

Thanks again for your advice. I think I'll take a further couple of days off
work and take things easy.

Best regards

Dave

Dave if you pick up any more info let us no on this news group
I have had the same thing as you same date and as you said the pain in
the groin area is terrible
Me it is the left hand side base of the penis to scrotum. When I am sat
down it is fine or laying in bed. The problem is when I stand I feel
like someone is shoving Knives into my scrotum and since having it done
over a week ago the pain is getting worse. I hope to get an appointment
at the doctors soon but in the meantime any advise of people who have
been throught he same thing. thanks

Will do Scott !!

I think like most things in life, vasectomies affect different people in
different ways. Consider an injection in the arm, some people bruise, some
don't. Consider having wisdom teeth out .. some people suffer for days, some
don't !!

Vasectomies are no different and lots of things come into the equation. It's
only been 2 days for me and I have been better today but it's still bloody
painful.

HAd my vasectomy on 2/18. I guess I was really llucky; nominal pain, no
blood in semen, no problems period. Slight bruising and no swelling. I
did EXACTLY what I was told; (rest, ice, no lifting, etc....for 4 days)
One month after, things are "normal"; and 3/18 I give my first
"sample". Hopefully, I will get zeros and be good to go....

Good luck

I had mine done on 3/18. Everything was fine the first 4 days, then I too
began experiencing the pain of standing up and moving around, though mine is
on the right side. Some swelling, but it feels like someone has a vice grip
on my right testicle. OUCH! Thanks for posting all of this, it helps
knowing I am not alone and that this too shall pass. I just hope it's soon!

Thanks again.

Bruising can increase after a few days. If the swelling continues to
worsen, you probably should go back to see the doctor. One bit of
advice bears repeating: JOCKSTRAP! I wore one for about 2 weeks
after, and it made a big difference.
