"Bothersome" doesn't begin to describe it, IMHO, if it puts sex out of
the question! (After two years of vasectomy, I occasionally experience a
dull ache at the cut points the day after ejaculating. But it has never
been enough to keep me from trying it again!)
There are a couple of possibilities that occur to me, including sperm
granulomas or an infection of the epidydmis. I think both these
conditions can come and go, as you describe it; and both are easily
treated. Look through our website links (not just the complications
site, but the other medical sites there). And definitely go see the
doctor!

Before you buy.
I'm interested in your comment about the dull pain at the cut points the day
after ejaculation. This is my problem. Lasts about two days and goes away.
I've never thought it serious enough to see my doctor. Have you ever sought
advice?
Cheers

No, I never have, as the pain is never very serious, and it goes away so
quickly. Also, even though for awhile I got it regularly, I got it less
frequently as time went by; and now I only seem to get it after
particularly long "sessions" (solo or not), involving a lot of teasing
and a long-delayed ejaculation, or if I cum more than once in a night.
The situtation does create a dilemma, as in my experience ejaculations
produced this way are my favorites (bigger and better, imho!). I
usually resolve the dilemma by risking the dull ache. I look upon the
result (when it occurs) as a kind of mild "sex
hangover"--and well worth the effort!
I AM curious as to what causes it, and why it seems to be associated with
delayed ejaculation. But I haven't felt like "sharing" with my doctor at
the level I would have to in order to find out! Do you get the pain
every time, or only under special circumstances? Also, how long since
your vasectomy?
cheers,
trifold
------
I get the pain after every ejaculation and can't say it is any better or
worse relative to the intensity of the occasion. For example, it is 9.40pm
now and I've just become aware of a dull ache (maybe because I'm thinking
about it right now). I masturbated this morning around 7.30am and (as is
often the case) the ejaculation was quite intense. I don't recall having
the pain during the day though (but I had a very full day at work and didn't
have much time to think about my balls). I'd ejaculate probably six to
seven times a week - half from intercourse and the other half from
masturbation, but the pain seems to be the same each time. I also can't
figure any relationship between the length of arousal and don't recall
having the pain when aroused. I do however recall once (just recently)
feeling the pain begin within minutes of ejaculating (just after 'rolling
off'), but this is unusual. It also passes within about 24 hours, so
abstinence makes it better (although that's a BIG price to pay).
As I said, I've had a few occasions were I thought I might see my doctor
about it, but in the main, it isn't a great problem and it isn't getting
worse. In Australia, referrals to 'specialists' expire after 12 months, so
I'll need to see my GP to get a referral to my urologist if I want to see
him
again. You just can't front up to a specialist doctor without a referral
from a GP! I think however that it will ultimately be curiosity, rather
than discomfort, that drives me to the doctor.
One of my brothers, who has his vasectomy about four years ago, has the same
problem, although much of his pain was associated with recurring infections.
I think I'm about to get lucky, so we'll see how I feel next time I visit!
Twice in one day! How things change when you're infertile!!
Marcus
I used to have something like the ache you describe ocasionally, before
the snip, but haven't had it since. It wasn't in the "cut ends" of
course, but felt like an ache in the scrotum, as if my balls had had a
good workout! Like you said, it usually followed more intense
episodes. "sex hangover" sounded like a good way to describe it, and I
never minded it, but intriguingly it hasn't happened since.
Over the last couple of weeks (this is now about 2 months since I had
the op) I've started to notice a bit of an ache in one ball (always the
right) and tubes. It's come and gone a bit - seems unrelated to sex -
but has got a bit more intense and frequent over the last couple of
days. Guess I'll see how it goes, & see the doctor if it gets much
worse.
Going away this weekend for our wedding anniversary (without the kids)
- I'd timed the snip to make sure I'd be all clear for this, so hope
the ache doesn't give me too much trouble!!

I didn't know operation-related infections could set-in so long after a
vasectomy. Does the doctor think the infection originated with the snip,
but only became serious 6 months later? Or does he/she think the
infection originated after the vasectomy from some other cause--for
example, not from the cutting itself, but from back-up of blocked sperm
into the epidydimis? Did you have the open or close-ended procedure
(which is supposed to prevent back-up into the epidydimis)? Were you
given any "pre-emptive" antibiotics as part of your post-vasectomy care?

Yes, I understand. I guess symptoms are always "subjective" to a certain
extent, depending a lot on state of mind/time available, etc..

Hmmm. This would be worrisome to me.

NOT a good solution, I would agree! (I come close to sharing your own
"outlet" schedule, and begin experiencing "other symptoms" if I depart
from it!)

Same here. But really, curiosity is an(other) appetite worth satisfying!
(Also, I wonder if you are experiencing a recurrence of the old
infection?)

It's curious you guys have had such bad experiences with infection. It
would be interesting to find an explanation for this, too! Any chance
you got snipped by the same guy? (Could be, too, you share similar
plumbing!)

Hope things work out as you anticipate! (BTW, how do women know you are
infertile? Or do you think your luck is changing because of invisible
vibes they pick up on? Or have your "social skills" improved in some
way?)

You lift weights with your balls?! ;-)

That is odd. I wonder if both our experiences are related to
contractions of the vas at orgasm? My theory is that these contractions,
which apparently always occur at ejaculation (the vas is a highly
muscular tube), are especially violent when the ejaculation is especially
powerful. In my case, after vasectomy maybe these contractions irritate
vasectomy scars; whereas in your case, the pain before vasectomy may have
been caused by a kind of "tug" on your balls at orgasm (a tug that is no
longer exerted because the vas is disconnected).

I think this is pretty common, and might be related to sensitivity from
scar tissue. It usually fades over time.

Good planning! (My wife and I celebrated the first anniversary of
"our" vasectomy in a similar way!)

Weekend went well. A lot less ache than during the week - maybe more
sex is the cure!! Even went horseriding - which is something I've
rarely done before - occurred to me along the way that it wasn't
necessarily the best thing for a sore groin but it didn't seem to cause
any problems.

I had the pain for some time afterwards. I travelled to the USA for a 6
week holiday two weeks after my op, so I thought it was just the exertions
from teh holiady etc for a while. Then I persisyed for too long with
increasing pain before I finally made an appointment to see my urologist.
By teh time I saw him, almost 6 montsh had poassed since the op. I had an
open ended procedure and no pre-emptive anti-biotics were given. All I had
prescribed was a pain killer (which I didn't need). My urologist believes
the infection started by over-exertion in teh period immediately after the
op (I went to teh football teh day afterwards and helped coach a junior
side).

With all respect to my brother ... I think he had his op on the cheap!! No
... he has had a series of health problems relating to a bad dose of
pneumonia and plueresy several years beforehand. I think his resistsnec to
infection is fairly low.

My wife knows I'm infertile. And after four kids (the last of whom was a
'surprise') and a few scares in betweem (even though she took the pill for
the most part), it's just nice to know we can have sex withotu worrying
about a pregnancy. She was being seductive towards me when I was last
posting!!
