I sent a reply to Peter Lucas well before Lucas first started posting to
alt.support.trauma-PTSD on 03/04/2003.
Some of the contents is shown below, note my reference to PTSS.
'I wasn't in the military, I was a volunteer. I started out training as a
Laboratory Technician in a NZ hospital and then spent nine months working
with the Red Cross in Hospital Vung Tau 1971.
Returned home, and got job as a trainee draftsman. Over the years I
progressed to Electrical Engineer. I spent a lot of time working remote
sites in Aussie and Asia.
Had a few near misses. Shot at while visiting villages in Vietnam. Taken
prisoner by VC for two days, tortured, and let then go when it was verified
that I was simply a Kiwi Volunteer. Almost burnt alive in a bus. Crashed in
a single engine plane coming back from Cobar NSW. Chopper crash in PNG while
rescuing an injured Miner.
I don't have to work anymore so I spend my time volunteering, writing and
studying medicine. My wife Diane is a Nurse."
Yeah I used to suffer badly from Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome, it isn't so
bad now though.'
Then Peter Lucas started posting to alt.support.trauma-PTSD on 03/04/2003.
What's the bet he hadn't heard of the disease before I mentioned it.
And then he had the 'bright idea' to look for a group with compensation in
his mind.
Look I don't really give a stuff.....but look how the prick operates.
He steals pieces of other peoples lives and passes it off as his own.

Certainly can't say the same for you or the cane toad. Do you see anyone

This is a support group. Have you seen a single other member here posting
'googled crap'? We asked you to 'take it elsewhere', to 'take it back to
oz', to 'keep it the hell out of here', yet you still persist posting your
googled crap, tiny urls that no one reads. NO ONE HERE CARES. Most of the
old-timers here don't need this stress in their lives. They don't read what
you post, don't care what you post. THIS ISN'T THE SORT OF GROUP THAT
EXISTS ON DISSENT. NOBODY HERE CARES, the only people who come here are
people looking for support, looking to have questions answered about PTSD.
They aren't 'looking to get involved in a dispute.' They are here for
PEACEFUL time. If you truly had PTSD, you'd have understood that by now.
People with PTSD don't want any added turmoil in their lives, they have
enough of it already. They certainly aren't looking for a SUPPORT GROUP to
add more turmoil to their already tumultuous lives. They don't care about
your private issues with anyone else. GET IT?

Peter Lucas lives in Queensland where the cane toads are. I don't think
tinydancer understands how Australian States are put together. Fair
enough, I guess - I'm hard pressed to remember where North Dakota and
South Dakota are in relation to each other.

have been, except those Aussies living overseas in Tassie.
A few years ago one staggered out of a box of bananas at the fruit
markets in Perth. They are presently poised to wipe out everything at
ground level smaller than a cat throughout the Kakadu.
Cane toads were imported here from south America because some fool said
they ate cane beetles. They don't. Cane beetles are one of the few
things smaller than themselves that they *don't* eat to extinction.
Come to think of it, every destructive pest, hard hoofed animal and
'large' predator on the island was imported here from somewhere else.

Why are you care-taking folks who have PTSD and need, desparately, to
learn how to take care of themselves? In my experience, this is called
enabling.

I don't think of it as care-taking, it's offering support, ideas, different
perspectives when one is mired down and can't come up with 'em on their own,
same thing we do here, or rather *did* here. We all have had times where
we've come here for support through crisis', it's just a shame this place
doesn't feel safe enough for most to do that anymore.
And it's damn hot and muggy here. I don't do 'hot and muggy' well at all.
:( So this afternoon I went home with my daughter when she came to pick up
baby Jake at lunch, spent the afternoon in her pool and had dh pick me up on
his way home from work. That was so nice and relaxing, somehow 96 degrees
didn't feel quite as bad when submerged in water. :-) The pool water was
70 degrees, I hated having to get out again.

When I returned from IL, all my hostas seemed a little crispy. I've had
on the soaker hoses for 3 days straight ... the rain just seems to miss
my back yard every time it comes through ... unless it hails. :/
Gee am I glad that I put in a submeter for the water this year: I don't
have to pay the outrageous sewer bills for watering outside! And, with
an inside cut off, I can turn the soakers on and off without getting out
of the a/c. :)

What's a submeter? We don't have one of those, I'm having to run in and
out, not only watering the garden, but there are three damn cats that prey
on my birds and squirrels. Last week, I happened to look out the window and
one of those cats had one of my squirrels in it's mouth shaking it. Upset
me to no end. I love my critters, ya know. So I dashed downstairs, out the
back door, where I've got my hose all prepped to blast the cats. I was
using a 'super shooter', but after awhile those cats didn't seem much
bothered by it unless I could get up real close. With the hose I can blast
'em really good cause I turn the water on full blast. I feel so worn thin
lately, taking care of baby jake everyday, taking care of murphy, who is in
the final stages of her cancer, and trying to protect my birds and
squirrels. Other than managing to fit in my workouts as I can, I don't feel
like I'm having much time at all or energy for that matter, to do anything
for me anymore.
Glad to hear you got that submeter though, our last water bill was $100.00.
And we had already given up on the lawn, just focusing on the garden now.

TD, your comments made me think...... I'm in another 'chat group' that
is strictly through email. People talk about whatever they want and
reply to the group, and an email goes to every member to which you can
reply, or ignore.
What are the merits of setting something like that up for here?
The groups are with Yahoo, there has to be a 'boss' who accepts emails
of new people who want to join the group....... you can remain anon in
the group, but all your details etc have to be given to the 'boss'.
Sounds like a good job for you :-)
One way to weed out the stalkers etc. This forum can be left open for
any new people as a 'first point of contact'.
Maybe worth thinking about?

What about a slug gun (BB gun?) thru an open window? It doesn't kill
them, but it stings like all hell!!

Make an appointment for yourself on your calendar, let everyone know
about it in advance and then they have to make alternative arrangements
for that day.

A submeter is a second meter, inline with the main meter, which controls
water flowing to the outside valves only. The Cleveland Water Department
requires that a certified plumber install the meter in the basement, near
the main meter, and reads both at the same time from its little electic
boxes on the outside of the house.
Then, the sewer folks get those two numbers and subtract the submeter
consumption from the total consumption to get the sewer consumption.
Outside water in the summer runs about 10 times higher volume than inside,
sewer-destined water. Thankfully, Lake Erie is nearby.

Now that's my kind of weather! Cool and crisp I do well. :) I keep the
thermostat set at 60 degrees in the winter. Just the right temperature for
me. And my favorite winter activity is shovelling snow. The neighbors are
always jealous because I've always got the driveway shovelled by the time dh
gets home from work if it's snowed. This past winter, when it snowed, I
was shovelling and saw the neighbor kids trying to find something to do in
the snow, so I taught 'em how to make a snowman. One would think all
children *knew* how to make a snowman, but apparently not southern kids.

Actually, 70 was a little nippy when I first got in. But after a few
moments if felt pretty good. Must have been the difference between the 96
degrees air temp.

So even though you are still using the water, you don't have to pay for the
outside water then? Our water bill is about doubled or more in the summer
time. :(

Me too Nancy, just haven't figured out how yet. Guess I'm just on a bummer
this week. During the day time though, when Jake is here and gives me some
kisses and hugs and snuggles, all my exhaustion seems to melt away. He's a
very affectionate little boy, likes to kiss all his stuffed animals and give
them big hugs. If only he'd take some decent naps I could get some rest
myself. But he's just not much of a napper, unlike his mother. She loved
her naps, still does. I keep reminding myself, I'm doing this for him.
He's only little once, and I really want to give him the best start I can.
Most of us here know how important that is, probably more so than others.

That's a good idea Peter. I'm going to do that. I'm no good to anyone if I
fall apart, 'eh? So far my days off involved dentist appointments, which do

No, I still pay for the water ... I just don't have to pay an inflated
sewer bill. Here the sewer bills are getting to be equal to the water
bills.
I don't mind paying for the water I use. I am glad to not have to pay
for the water that I do not return 'to the system' for sewage treatment.

My mother, during the polio scares, used to put me down next to her on
the 'big bed' and insist that I hold still while she napped. Next thing
I knew, I had fallen asleep and she was up, doing whatever. Maybe this
technique will work for you.
Sounds like a bit of hypervigilance in the little one. :/

I'll keep it in mind. Maybe when he gets a little older and understands
what I'm saying better. I did try to do something like that a couple weeks
ago, with rather disasterous results. ;) I had him laying beside me on my
bed, closed my eyes and pretended to sleep. Jake reached out and happened
to grab just the right place on me, he got a nipple and twisted it. Man
that hurt.

Oh god yes, he was born apprehensive at best. The pediatrician dubbed him
"mr. serious'. But he's really begun coming out of his shell, learned to
trust, isn't scared of everything the way he used to be. He's become happy,
jolly, inquisitive, affectionate, just everything you'd want a baby to be.
That's why I didn't want them to have to put him in daycare, not after all
this security he's developed. He's like a different child, mr serious has
been replaced by 'mr. smiley-face'. He's really a pretty good baby, but
still not a napper. I tried a different tactic this morning. Left him in
the crib after his short nap and turned Sesame Street on the little TV in
the guest room, where the crib is located. That way, I could take a shower,
wash my hair, and get dressed while he watched Sesame Street safely in the
crib. And it allowed me to lay down while he did take his short nap, and
not have to do the whole 'shower and dress' routine, wasting valuable, to me
anyway, rest time. ;-)

See! You made that decision to take care of yourself with only a little
encouragement.
Think about how much better you could feel if you did this more, instead
of enabling others. :)

Yes, thank you both for encouraging me to think about it. I was remembering
that this morning when I decided to give it a try. So he cries a bit, he's

Yup, Sesame Street crib time is going to become a regular routine around
here. Heck, my kids learned a lot when they were little watching it, their
ABC's and Numbers. It's not like he's stuck in there all day, 45 minutes or
so to allow grammy time to get herself ready in somewhat peace, and I feel
more refreshed and ready to face the day. :)

I'd thought about it a couple months ago. I have some friends on Delphi
Forums who offered to set me up a group if I wanted one. If others have an
interest, let me know, Yahoo or Delphi, doesn't matter to me either way.
I'm in groups on both. Personally I prefer reading the Delphi Forums
myself, they are easier to read and one can post pictures and such. Both
work on the same principle, blocking out the undesireables. :-)

Delphi Forums are posted to at a site, but nothing like Yahoo's, much easier
to read and follow. There are 'subjects' with the messages all posted in
order, somewhat like here, under each topic heading, so one only has to
follow the subjects they have an interest in. And you can get email's in
your mailbox to let you know if anyone has replied to a post you made.

I also have a jewelry armoire, thankfully I'm able to lock all but the
bottom drawer in it. So in that bottom drawer I only have some necklaces I
got at a gem show. I love 'em, they are all quartz, the tumbled shiney
stones. Rose quartz, lavender quartz, blue lace agate, etc. Jake loves
those too. He loves to get them out, put a couple around his neck and
parade around the house in them. I'm bettin Auntie Z ain't into that crap
either. ;->

wife if she found that to be the case? Man that hurt. One of my daughters

Yup, I should've explained that, it's flavored lip gloss. Right now I've
been putting clear, vanilla flavored lip gloss on him. He finds the little
bottle and eagerly brings it to me for me to open it and put some on his
lips. He looks so cute/funny, purses his lips, parted just a bit, to let me
roll it on his lips. Then he walks off nodding his little head and smackin
those lips. Little stinker.
One day I put one of my littlest velcro rollers on the top of his head, to
give him a nice curl. He was so proud of it. He kept walking around
patting the top of his head. Especially when I tell him 'how purty he is'.
He'll give me a kind of embarrassed/shy smile and smack those lips again.

She said either did it, but at least the girls didn't go off like a little
fire hose! I was stopped from biting the same way, and that's how I taught
my dogs as pups not to bite me.

When Kyna was about 12 months old, she started getting nippier and nippier.
Finally, I got down, got into a 'fight' with her, gave her a good

to gettin' nippy I do the same, knock them down and then roll them into the
submissive belly up position and get them by the throat with my teeth.
Simply put, it's canine language that they immediately understand without a
doubt. My big boy is 120 lbs and the first time he growled at me as a
youngster over a bone I'd given him and only wanted to move it, hey, Mama
got right into it. And we all know tha' sayin'........... If Mama ain't
happy, ain't nobody happy!

I should be at work but I can barely get my leg on due to causing a huge
blister( skin coming off) my stump while teaching yesterday.
It is weird because it was out of the blue and hasn't happened for over a
year.
I am pissed off because I basically cannot walk for a few days maybe more
if I cannot heal it properly.This doesn't look good as I only work 2 days a
week b/c I am on Workers Comp still.
Murphy's Law has once again manifested.This is the busiest Term for me due
to choir rehearsals for our concert in 6 weeks.
I bags coming down to the pond for a swim.!!!!
BTW all the trolls here make it most uninviting, tiresome and boring at very
least!!

The scary thing is that - in my experience of ast-p - trolls *are*
'normal'. Every time I've come here to post or lurk its been packed with
a troll or two and the ubiquitous fanclub.
First there was the fight perpetrated by one particular personality over
whether this was her group or not. Among other things it covered whether
people without PTSD ought be allowed to post, what constituted real
'support' and whether a claim that PTSD was caused by rape could either
be genuine or count. That particular personality's dysfunction took care
of her in the end, apparently. Alas I was otherwise occupied during
those few months and I missed the opportunity to raise the exhausted
cheer of relief.
Then it was a 'save the victim' thing. One fight erupted over making it
a group exclusive either to abuse survivors or combat survivors or just
plain straight-forward trauma survivors. Others have carried on ad
nauseum about who has the personal right to post here or not based on
their mental health. Just lately it's been an all-in all-out 'Us'
against 'Them' with some rather nasty tactics and abuse being flung about
the place willy nilly.
All in all, business as usual down at ast-p.
In my own personal experience "ignore them and they'll go away" doesn't
work, either in this group or any other. The people saying it loudest
and longest are often the people it applies to most. I tend to think
that when one tells another what to do they are pointing a metaphorical
finger in that person's direction. IMO they need to count how many
fingers are pointing back at *them*.
Regarding the heading of this thread - I have taken careful note of *WHO*
asks most frequently for their supporters to leave the public group and
go somewhere private with them. Personally, I'd rather watch a blank
group go by for a month first.
