I want to share this information in the hopes that it might help someone.

I have suffered from intermittent Tinnitus now for about 7 years. Something
triggers it; it lasts for days, and then abates, then in a day or two the
cycle starts again. Mine sounds like high pitched squealing - only in my
left ear.

I can't put my finger on any one specific trigger, but stress, certain
medications seem to be the culprit(s). Also, I had a virus and a bout with
vertigo back then and that may have done some damage. Mine builds to the
point of extreme anxiety and sleeplessness.

Anyhow, I have found something that absolutely stops it in its tracks - and
I mean gone - until the next time it starts. This is NOT a commercial for
some new quack treatment!

If, before I go to bed, I take 7.5 - 15mg of Remeron - I wake up in the
morning with absolutely NO Tinnitus and all stress and anxiety gone!!!!!!
It works every time for me.

A few notes about Remeron:

1. In low doses, Remeron is extremely sedating - only take it before
bedtime - about 30 min to 1hr before sleep. It totally knocks me out. The
next day I am very drowsy but completely relaxed and calm - sometimes a
little too drowsy - but a little caffeine helps that.

2. Remeron is a specific type of antidepressant (not an SSRI - but an
NaSSA - generic Mirtazapine). Look it up (rxlist.com) - don't take any
prescription medicine without researching it for yourself and consulting a
doctor and don't use it with any other sedating or antidepressant drugs.

3. I don't take it regularly for its antidepressant properties - I take it
for its anti-anxiety/sedating properties (an "off label" use. I think the
extreme sedation is what somehow stops the tinnitus. I take 7.5 - 15mg 1
maybe 2 nights per week to stop the episodes. I only take it when I need it
and don't want to build up a tolerance to it.

4. It has a paradoxical dosing effect - i.e. the lower the dose, the more
sedating.

As always, your mileage might vary - works for me, might not work for you -
all I can tell you is that after 7 years - I've finally found something that
actually works! If I can help only 1 person with this miserable condition I
will have fulfilled my mission.

I have recently read, on a forum, of one other person who has taken a drug
in this same family who has had a similar experience.

Good luck.
