like people really yell at each other a lot here. From things like
"racist *ssh*le" to "sh*t up, you xyz" and "how would you know, you
xyz!"
My oh my...is it safe here? Care to give me a rundown as to how things
work here?
Also, what if I have something to offer the group?

It is good you are here. We need those who are willing to contribute.
This is what is going on here: War of the Trolls.
Poon, who came here claiming to having received a blow to the head,
complained of tinnitus. He later denied this. His tinnitus lessened to the
point where he no longer is troubled by it, or so he says. He has
habituated to his tinnitus, evidently, if he ever suffered from it in the
first place, but denies the efficacy of learning to live with tinnitus,
something most all, if not all of us, have experienced.
Poon, if you Google his history, is a racist who trolls several groups,
doing there exactly what he does here, argue for argument's sake. He has no
interest in the subject, the support nature of the group. He is a Usenet
Troll, here to disrupt, and his special technique is racist and classist
speech. He's notorious on Usenet.
Bluto, is, well, Bluto, another troll to the degree he has nothing to
contribute but seems to chew up scads of bandwidth in the process. An enemy
of the troll Poon, what we have is dueling trolls.
In my decade of reading Usenet and arguing politics and other things here,
I've learned there is no method of "fixing" things when they end up like it
is here. Boycotts don't work, because new posters are not aware of the
situation and interact with the trolls, perpetuating their activity.
Argument with them is exactly what they want. Poon wants nothing more than
any opportunity to speak in racist tones. That's his real agenda, to argue
and insult.
So, if we can't fix this, the group is dead.
What I do is simply not click on any post by Poon or Bluto. I don't read
them.
Yes, we love our free speech, but at times in unregulated forums,
dysfunction rules.
Usenet is a hoot.

here are eager to discuss tinnitus in a polite and helpful manner.
As many have written on this forum, there are many causes of tinnitus, and
this is fertile ground for discussion. There are things that can be done.
There are realities that must be faced in a large percentage of cases that
seem idiopathic. There are drugs and environmental factors to discuss.
This has the possibility of an informative and helpful and supportive
dialogue, but not with Poon and Bluto.
It is safe here, just noisy with the racist spewing his filth.

have internalized both Poon and Bluto features and make them the
features of Williams'.

group, and it made me sad to need to pull it down. Flaming and "verbal
abuse" were not a part of my forum, however.
How are rules enforced here?

As you'll see, the wilmud's and their sort freely pollute and troll as
it pleases them to, -and quite gratuitously, since they've evidently
nothing worthwhile in their 'lives' and likely never did.
However, if you manage to ignore them, you can still have cordial,
productive conversations here - though you shouldn't be too surprised
at 'jrw's' vituperative, strained efforts to get your attention.

to think it is OK to follow me form one news group to another all
because I described you as a social misfit. Do you not see that this
is the behaviour of a troll? Do you not understand that you are

group to group because they have this need to exact vengeance, its a
form of narcissism. You insult people all day long, a little

want to respect that this a support group, where some really do suffer
from what is more often than not an incurable ailment, which can cause
