Hi all,

Caroline's husband, Paul here. She has today started taking T3, although
not until later in the day as the script only arrived mid-morning. No
sudden rush and still tired (post-lunchtime nap).

Those of you who know - do you have any idea when it should work? I know
that it is supposed to be quick acting, but does it need to 'build up' like
T4 does?

TIA,
Paul.

No it does not always cause a sudden rush
If the patient is genetically receptor resistant as I clearly am then it
takes weeks to feel the benefits
I have been taking a high dose for 6 months and whilst the excess weight
dropped off rapidly the other symptoms are only slowly resolving
Absolutely no palpitations etc or rushing around like a headless chook

It took six weeks before I noticed a difference.

Thank you both for the replies. They certainly helped clarify things for
me. I think I'll have slightly more realistic expectations now and will
just have to be patient for a bit longer!

I would be interested to know what dosages of T3 & T4 you are on please? I
am currently on 20mcg T4 & 20 mcg T3 (started today).

Thank you also for the link to Dr Lowe. I have now read all his stuff on
T3. He has a lovely common sense approach that I found easy to read and
understand as a lay person.

Thanks again! Caroline

better than when she was on T4 only, but her numbers are better. hopefully
another few weeks will help

Hi Caroline,

I was on Armour for a few years - 1 grain.

Then I was on synthroid (50mcgs) and cytomel (5mcgs taken twice a day) for
awhile.

I am now off the T3 med thanks to my diet change.

(Paul here) What Caroline really meant was 200 mcg T4 and 20 mcg T3.

I took 125 mcg Levo and 10 mcg Cytomel for about 6 months. Today is the 4th
day back on 90 mg Armour instead of the lev/cyt combo.

I'm on 58mcg of T3 and 74mcg of T4 - which is what 40mcg of Tertroxin (T3)
and 2 grains of Armour add up to.

I felt the difference the FIRST DAY and i havent felt better since. My bowel
moved on its own, my hands and feet warmed up, and my brain came back
online. so that i was able to write a statement for an application i was
doing, in minutes, not days as it normally would have taken.

I had gotten to 4.5 grains of Armour and was still constipated with aching
arthritic knees and the need for naps daily.

Oh well if she is only taking 20mcg of T3 and 200 mcg of T4 you could be
waiting hell of a long time
Been there done that and it got me nowhere because for me any T4 is a toxin
which is stored into fat in my body
ONLY when on 80mcg of T3 alone did my body shift into gear and the weight
drop off and other symptoms start to resolve

Did you have a problem with fluid retention prior to taking T3? I have
puffy eyes, the swelling in my fingers remains even when they're shrunken
from the cold, I can only imagine how much water I'm carrying around.
Hopefull I'll start T3 for Wilson's syndrome next week, just wonder what to
expect.

Only???!!!! That dosage is a high one!!!! I am Hashi-hypo, stabilized at
175 mcg T4. I have tried T3 and T4, several dosages, and 200 of T4 plus
20 of T3 rounds something like almost 300 mcg of T4 thyroid hormone!

I was diagnosed well into a myxedema, so I was really bad, and started
to have enormous improvement after 2 weeks on just 150 mcg of T4 (from
initial 50 up to 150 within 2 weeks).

That varies from person to person, of course, but under such a high
dosage I would look for improvements within a couple of weeks OR less!

Why the change? Any symptoms not receding?

Yep - my wedding ring hardly ever fit right and my ankles looked like tree
trunks.
Passing 3 lbs of water the first day was mainly accumulation for the two
days prior that i took no meds to give T4 time to wash out so i didnt end up
with chest pains - i accumilated at least 2 of those lbs of water in 2
days!!!

unfortunately not always the case in some people no amount of T4 makes any
dent in symptoms
if the patient is thyroid hormone resistant then high doses of T3 only are
needed to kick start the system ......later the dose is tailed down to more
like 40 mcg of T3

I am also taking 200 mcg T4 and 20 mcg T3 and have been for about 2
years now. Still only feeling about 90% normal though.
