I am curious as to what are some of the inseam lengths of female members of
this newsgroup. Is 34" considered long? Are there any of you out there with
even longer than this? If so, how difficult is it to find the correct length in
pants or jeans?

regards,

tommy

I use a 36" inseam. Which is fine, as long as I don't plan on wearing
anything other than jeans.

Really? 36' seems awfully long if you are only 6 feet tall. I've got
nearly a foot on you, but only wear a 40' inseam.... that doesn't make
sense. Are sizes different for men?

I wear a 36" inseam, and I'm 5'10". Women ARE proportioned differently
than men. We have relatively short torsos and longer legs. This
difference is particularly noticeable if you are a woman trying to purchase
a bicycle - if the standover height of the bike is correct, usually the
cockpit of the bike is too long, leading to a too-stretched out body and
arm position. There are a very few manufacturers out there that offer
female-specific designs (as opposed to slapping a coat of pink paint on a
men's bike), but usually only in small sizes.

Hi, Tommy,

I take a 36" inseam, and yes, it's hard to find.

I don't know why you are asking, but in case it's helpful,
there are two catalogs for tall women which have pants
with a 36" inseam. They are:
Tall Classics: 1-800-345-1958
Long Elegant Legs: 1-800-344-2225

JC Penney has failed me. Even their Ultra-Tall sizes
usually only go up to a 34" inseam.

If you compare a man and woman of the same height, the
woman will usually have the longer inseam. Men
are usually proportioned slightly longer in the body,
women slightly longer in the legs.

I am 6' 5" and I can get away with a 36" inseam, but I really need a 37", which
I have never seen except in jeans. Luckily I have a long torso, otherwise I
would be needing a 39" inseam, in which case I would move to a nudist colony or
wear nothing but sweatpants.

As several others have pointed out already, it makes in fact perfect
sense. It is the torso/leg ration which makes it terribly hard for tall
women to find clothes that fit. I can get away with 34" inseams, but it
doesn't look right. I don't think I have ever found a pair of "women's
pants" which are correctly proportioned (I use a 32" waist).

A man and woman with the same inside leg measurement will tend to
be about five inches apart in height. That is very approx only,
and there are massive variations, but as a general rule it holds
goo. That is also why a woman of 6ft will have more trouble in
airline seats than a man of 6ft 4in. Any airline setting height
limits for "those" seats must allow a height differential of ca
4-5in.

Lands End Direct Merchants, of Dodgeville Wisconsin, do ladies
stirrup pants, chino style and cords to 36" inside leg - well,
they do in the UK, so I am sure the have them in the US too.

P.S. Have a good Christmas everyone

Lots of mass producing manufacturers will go up to a 36'' inseam. I'm a 38/39 and life is hell. My options are few and far between and I'm contemplating learning how to sew in order to make my own pants! There are a few pants that I have found that work: Lucky Jeans, Lululemon and un-hemmed Dickies.
