i don't know about "the tallest" but geena davis springs to mind (not that
i like her in fact i can't stand her) also gabrielle reece (sp?) is pretty
tall if you consider her an actress as well as athlete

Sandy Allen at 7-7 1/4 has been in 2 movies. Bea Bradley 6-7 was in a couple
in the 70's.Barbara Rhoades at 6-2 was in movies and tv. Betty Thomas of Hill
Street Blues
was 6-2. Dorothy Ford, a 6-6 actress and stuntwoman worked from the 40's to
the 80's. After that Geena is as tall as anyone going right now..

I have met Dorothy Ford (nice lady, in her 70s). Her height as an actress (and
she only worked from the 40s into the early 60s, and I don't believe she did
stunts) was a shade under six feet--pretty considerable for that era. She did
work with a lot of short comic leading men (including Mickey Rooney and Lou
Costello), which may lead some to think she was far taller than her actual
height.

Have never heard of Bea Bradley (exactly what films was she in?), and though I
recall tall Barbara Rhoades from late 60s films like "Shakiest Gun In The
West," was not aware she was 6-2 (if true).

Other current tall actresses of note (all approximately six feet):
Brooke Shields
Kristen Johnston
Sigourney Weaver

I'm sure there are others who have slipped my mind.

There is an actress, Faith Minton, who is quite tall. I've only seen
her in bit parts. She had a physical fight with Gene Hackman in All Night
Long and played female wrestler Big Mama in All The Marbles. There are
other credits, check www.imdb.com There is also cult actress Mary
Woronov (Rock And Roll High School, Eating Raoul). In Angel Of H.E.A.T.,
she looked almost like co-star Marilyn Chambers (one of her attempts to
break into mainstream cinema), except she was close to half a head taller
(and Ms. Chambers is not that short).

ridiculous next to tom cruise, who is something like 5'6"?

No, but she's skilled at disguising it. Have a look at

and compare the top picture[1], where Kidman doesn't see the camera,
with the rest. Also note that Cruise always uses every inch of
height he's got. You can also compare her shoe useage when she's
with him and when she's alone...[2]

Btw. IMDB rates him at 5'7" and her at 5'10", so the difference is
not _very_ big.

And while I'm at it: What's the big deal?

no way. she's tall (maybe 5'9-10"?) but not extraordinarily so (or even 6

For whatever it's worth, my own vote goes to a lady, screen name
Kendra Torgan, who's been described as a British model and apparently
made her acting debut in a perfectly awful, 1998, direct-to-video
British movie, "Killing Time". A towering, slender, deliciously
menacing, black haired beauty with a low, sexy voice who appeared
to be well over 6 feet in heels (and perhaps also in flats), she played
a nameless Italian assassin who spoke no English but was hired to kill
a local crime boss and managed to wipe out a small army of bad guys
with two semi-automatic pistols in one of the silliest gunfights filmed
since Slapsie Maxie Rosenbloom, as the "Square Shooter", charged up a
hill, unscathed, through a hail of bullets, firing at least 47 square
bullets without reloading from his two, square barreled, single action
six shooters and single handedly routed two dozen outlaws, who fled for
their lives! Have to admit, though, Ms. Torgan had some great poses
during that gunfight and looked a lot better than Slapsie Maxie in
disposing of the bad guys!

I haven't seen her in anything else (not surprising considering the
quality of her introductory vehicle) or seen any information about her
on the web apart from (almost universally unfavorable) movie reviews.
Too bad, since I thought she was one of the most beautifully
photogenic, tall actresses I've seen in quite a while and a lady who to
my untrained eye, despite the rather limited range of her character,
appeared to have real acting talent.

Perhaps some of you in the U.K. know of and can provide some
information about her, just to satisfy one aging, would-be lothario's
idle curiosity (seem to have more and more of that these days!).

No, Tom Cruise is approximately 5'8" to 5'9". I used to be a huge fan back
in Top Gun days. Have those stats probably somewhere in all of my packrat
stuff. This is closer to correct than the 5'6" presumption.
