Well, this is from the CDC and it's interesting that over half the
people who ever smoked have quit and that the rate of smoking has
declined in the past ten years. I wonder if that is due to the fact
that older smokers died off?

Two years, nine months, one day, 15 hours, 57 minutes and 56 seconds.
20113 cigarettes not smoked, saving $6,033.99. Life saved: 9 weeks, 6
days, 20 hours, 5 minutes.
Yup, good analytical catch. Of course, when you die, you irrevocably
quit smoking.

I wonder whether dead smokers crave smoking sometimes?
What if what the ghost hunters catch late in the night in cemetaries
with their cameras are just "one-last-one" puffs of some poor smoker?
Pardon me, ex-smoker.
Maybe the embrace smoking post mortem because they've done worrying
about the bad health effects?
Orrrrr, maybe those who did not make it into heaven are forced to
smoke. For the whole of eternity and beyond?

My best guess would be that older smokers dying combined with a host of
other factors contribute to the decline. Society as a whole has turned
180 degrees on the acceptability of smoking during the past few decades.
This, and the government extreme taxation on tobacco, and the restriction
of advertising the stuff I should think would have an impact.
I do know that its great to be smoke-free!

Don't forget the recent bill that put the FDA in charge of regulating
cigarettes, and the ban on all flavors except for grandfathered-in
menthol. The next thing will hopefully be bans on all the other shit
they toss in there, reverting the ingredient list back to pure
tobacco.
That's not to mention the Obama administration's more tolerant stance
on marijuana. If teenagers insist on smoking something, I think
they're far better off with pot, considering they can stop easily
whenever they choose.
