My quit was somewhat bizarre.

Two packs/day for 50 years!!

Previous attempts over the years with various NRT and (if anybody
remembers) that little timing device which lengthened time between
cigarettes unsuccessful.

Had no current plan to quit. Came home from stores. Suddenly remembered
I'd forgotten to buy cigarettes. Found I had two left. Just suddenly
thought "O, the hell with it, I'll quit"

That was nearly 10 weeks ago. I honestly don't think I had any physical
withdrawal symptoms. I have reactive hypoglycemia and my blood sugar did
fluctuate for a couple of weeks - but I had no desire to smoke.

In fact, strangely, I have had no desire to smoke at all since I quit.
The only "danger" has been habit - the tendency to reach for cigarette
if on phone or facing a long drive for instance but even then I didn't
WANT a cigarette.

I guess, so far, I've been very lucky.

The point, I think, is this: At my age it probably won't make a heck of
a lot of difference anyway but if I as a heavy smoker for a long, long
time can do it - so can others.

By the way, those two cigarettes are still sitting on table next to my
chair!
