Hello, all.

I have been chewing Nicorette Gum for about four months now. (Smoked
lots of cigars a day - work out of my home, so there were no workplace
issues - and was addicted to the nicotine in the cigars.) I was not much
of a gum chewer, but Nicorette is not much of a gum for the masses. I
actually like the taste and the rubbery texture (could chew one piece
almost all day - reminds me of chewing a small balloon). I chew one all
morning, one all afternoon, and one all evening.

Does anyone know of a good substitute gum that tastes like or (more
importantly) has the texture of Nicorette? I have tried Dentine,
Wriggleys, Big Red, Stickfree, Extra, Carefree, and Freedent. None of
them have the strength that Nicorette has (more like cake frosting than
a balloon). I called the company (Nicorette), and they said that they
couldn't recommend any.

I would really like to wean myself onto regular gum, but have to find
one that I like. (I still miss cigars...)

Thanks,
- Andy

Perhaps silly putty? :)

I've heard of others who weaned themselves by cutting the pieces of
Nicorette gum. Perhaps you could cut a piece of Nicorette in half and add
a stick of (whatever kind you liked best) and gradually make the
transition to a substitute.

Good luck

I would like this information as well. It would be nice if the makers of
nicorette put out this type of gum.

+++++++++++++++

Can't think of any gum that would taste like nicorette but I seem to
remember that Double Bubble, Bubble Gum is a rubbery and chewy gum that
might equal nicorette's consistency for long term chewing.

Good luck and continued sucess on your quit.

try "teaberry". Personally I quit with nicorette gum, but I hated it. The
teaberry gum is very tough and rubbery, like nicorette, without the pepper
taste, but maybe you could spinkly pepper on your tongue in between chews to
get that flavor. :) seriously though, that teaberry gum might be worth a
try!

Hi Andy,

This isn't gum, but my hubby used to chew on a rubber band. It needs to be
sorta thick and wide. It always drove me crazy, but he seemed to like it.

It drove me nuts, that I can tell you--but hubby didn't seem to mind. Go figure.

Through the years I would call Nicorette trying to get to the next level of freedom but they haven't been responsive. They are actually missing a selling opportunity because so many of us now need a zero level of nicotine gum but there isn't any quality gum out there. What is wrong with them, don't they have a research and marketing department. There is a niche for people like us that they have constantly overlooked and maybe I should stop looking to them to fill it and go to another manufacturer. I was able to stop smoking several years ago by going from Nicorette gum only to the nicotine patch plus regular gum to just regular gum. The quality of regular and taste is terrible. Like someone else said, nicotine gum can last several hours while regular gum is worthless after 5 minutes and starts falling apart in your mouth. The short life of the other, including sugar free, gum means one will chew more and develop cavities. In the first 6 months I tried this, I went from no cavities for the past 11 years to 6 in just 6 months. That was from one check up to the next. My dentist couldn't believe it. I have never been a person who chews gum but am now addicted to chewing gum. I need a gum that is very similar or exactly like Nicorette but does not contain nicotine. As I said, it has been over several years since I have used any products containing nicotine. Nicorette must not be interested in helping people stop using nicotine or they would have done something by now given the number of posts I have seen through the years. Just make the gum with no nicotine in it. It should costs a lot less than Nicorette but then given market size, it will probably cost more than regular chewing gum. It doesn't need any flavor or maybe one or two flavors but then that brings sugar into the mix which means cavities. Maybe that is the better way to approach this. Compared to other gums, the original Nicorette doesn't contribute to cavities and I have years of dental records to prove it. Sell it from that point of view and others who want it to stop using gum with nicotine in it will buy it as well.

I just found a gum that is similar to the original nicotine gum as I have the same issue - I cant stand the sweetness and the strong flavors of the normal gums.
I found this on Amazon that I am going to try - One review said it is the closest that she has found to the original Nicotine gum. its called Falem and I believe its Turkish gum.
