Hello to all my friends here at ASSS newsgroup.

No new posts for almost 2 months. I decided I'd send this one in for the
hell of it.

I decided to see if this was still around. It was hard to remember how to find it. I started on here in 2011, I quit in 2011, and am still going strong. Never taking another puff forever. I still use the antiquated SilkQuit Meter to see my stats.
Have a great day.

Hello,
glad to meet you Terry. It's good you are still quit. For myself I can
say about the best thing I ever did was quitting smoking long term. I
finally managed to do that in 2009.

This news group here is just barely alive. That is sad. They have
something related to this group going on Facebook and Google groups. But
those platforms kind of turn me off and I never went back there.

The thing that got me to stop smoking was a combination of two facts:
1) smoking made me feel lousy and
2) I just got tired of struggling to stay quit.

I can't say why that combination finally made a difference, because it
wasn't something new. Can't say either why other good reasons over many
years never did the trick. But those two things occurred to me one day
and that made the difference, and it stayed with me. It is strange that
it happened that way.

Whenever I think of the fact that I have managed to quit smoking long
term it makes me quite happy. Congratulations on your eleven years of
smobriety. I'm glad to have you. Stop by here again some time.

Usually, I only see spam coming through from this feed, so nice to see someone active. I'm coming up on 18.5 years since I smoked, and shake my head at a new employee we hired that runs out every hour or so for a cigarette. I remember those cold winter days in Wisconsin here having to sneak out for a cigarette when I could spare the time. This from someone who used to work at Miller Brewing in the glory days when it was owned by Phillip Morris and we were allowed even in the 90's still to smoke anywhere in the building... Smoking in the cafeteria after a good patty melt (the chef down there was amazing), in the meeting rooms, and randomly changing ashtrays on my desk to something new and cute...

Now I just feel sad for the guy standing outside since I've been there, and hope he finds the willpower to make a go at quitting. I know it wasn't easy and I had a couple false starts...

Glad to hear from people who made the decision and are still smoke free years later. Good job all!

Hello John.
Being done with smoking long term is a great thing.
Your 18.5 years is a Big Deal for sure.
You and I and others here have something in common that's very
important. It's just about the best thing I ever did, and I'm so
happy I did it.
I'm glad to have met you John.

I've not looked at this site for quite some time now. Looks like you
stirred it up a little Bill. Good on ya. Oh....and yeah.....I didn't

Hi Terry,

Glad ya made it! I honestly can't remember the last time I had an urge to
smoke. I'm confident had I not quit when I did, I would not have attained
my 77th birthday a few weeks ago.

Cheers,

Wayne

Thanks for the post John. What a surprise it was when I discovered I
actually could quit smoking. I just needed some education on how to quit
and the daily (sometimes hourly) support from other quitters to get
through the first days, weeks, and months.
