BZ, it is *not* too late, it's never too late. Get back on the
Chantix, and if you've smoked, get back on the wagon. I did stop the
Chantix after two weeks, and I haven't had a huge problem, at least
nothing that seems huge, a few urges, but nothing huge like your
cravings are sounding, so get back on it. Some people need it longer
than others, but there's no one right way IMO. Some people quit cold
turkey, some people use stop smoking aids etc., I needed Chantix to
get me started, and I think you need it to keep you going for a bit
longer. Best to you, and please don't stop posting or trying.

Correct. The function of a craving is to lure you back into chaos and ill
health.
It's not disposed to provide you with peace.
You give yourself peace by fighting it. Strange, no? Peace through
combat...?
Thing is, the craving will go away-- regardless of whether or not you feed
it.
Soooo... . just don't feed it. Decide that you'll be stronger than a
momentary, fidgety annoyance.
Yeah, it's hard-- but not too hard. Heart disease is harder. Emphysema is
pretty damn hard.
*Cancer* is much too hard. They all score much higher on the "hard to bear"
scale than a craving for a smoke.
What's a few minutes of discomfort and anxiety in the long run...?
Do the (emotional/physical) math.
I wish you strength.
>Yeah, it's hard-- but not too hard. Heart disease is harder.

>pretty damn hard.

Some people spend a whole lifetime smoking and never get the above
mentioned, and some people who never smoke do, however...the cost of
cigarettes is utterly ridiculous, and that's really hard to justify
too. Cigarette tax...to pay or not to pay...cigarettes are not a
necessity of life, so it's one tax you can absolutely refuse to pay.
This group, and that thought keeps me going. :-)

I'm still on the wagon, but still feeling it ... just trying to get a
seat near the front right now. It's a bumpy ride indeed. Can't wait
till I get home and relax. Sorry, didn't mean to be discouraging to
anyone. Just needed to let loose. I think it helped.

Not discouraging at all!

The ride gets easier -- the crave's a great reminder that you're alive

I don't smoke. I smell like bread. Life is Good.
Jef that is a great post.
My heart goes out to you BZ. I remember feeling that exact same way.
But I didn't smoke to relieve it and now have 22 months (almost) smoke-
free.
Does it help to know that what a craving is is trying to relieve the
withdrawal from the previous cigarette? For some reason that really
helped me, to know that a craving would only be reignited, reinvented,
reborn anew upon my smoking to relieve the craving from the previous
cigarette. Also made me furious at the tobacco companies for this
ingenius feat of neuroscientific hijacking that more likely than not
would kill us if we continued it.
All best wishes.

I think honesty is pretty essential. If you're having cravings, and I
can see that happening with long time smokers, then I think it's best
to say it, so others don't think they're the only ones. I think we all
have our ways of dealing with it. Some get mad at the tobacco
companies, some get mad at the cost, some just get mad, but we are all
in it to quit tobacco and I want to hear true experiences. Glossing
over it is a tobacco company tactic. :-)

Don't go insane (you won't, you know), It's just an addiction - it can
be beat. Your mind set is your own worst enemy. Why would you let this
nicodemon rule your life? Pretty stupid, huh? Hang in there - do
whatever needs to be done to beat this SOB. Hugs, Pam
After my last cig, I took 2 Chantix a day for 6 weeks and 1 a day for
another 3.5 weeks.
My doctor wanted me to keep taking it for 6 months.
I'd say get on it, and stay on it, till the doctor says to quit.

just a thought.

Maybe more than "just a thought".
Amen to Stephanies post! I was trying to respond to this post...but,
it was worded much to clumsy to be of any use! But, then, when I ran
across Stephanie's post...it is EXACTLY what I wanted to say, only
worded much better! :)
Knowing that "a craving is is trying to relieve the withdrawal from
the previous cigarette" helped me IMMENSELY. Once you put it in those
terms, and look at it from that perspective, it was MUCH easier to
deal with.
I've been quit for over a year. My evening at work was HELL. HELL.
I didn't have anything to drink, I didn't get to pee, I worked
steadily. I didn't get to eat...9 hours of NOT ONE FLIPPIN' BREAK.
My co-worker, who was having an equally delightful evening said, "I
bet you wish this was one of those days that you drank" (I've never
been a drinker...just never cared for it...probably had 5 alcoholic
beverages in the past year)...I said, "no, not really". She then
said, "I bet you wished you could go smoke". Before I could answer
her comment, she said (she is a lifelong NON SMOKER)...in her NON
SMOKING WISDOM..."nahhh...I bet you don't...how would you have ever
got all this work done if you had to go smoke? you would have been
FREAKIN' OUT trying to get out for a smoke"! How true. I didn't have
to worry about relieving nicotine withdrawal symptoms. I had no
desire, urge, crave, or, even thought of that. I had lots of anxiety,
stress, irratability happening...BUT...at least, I wasn't consumed
with FURY because I couldn't go smoke!!!
So...I hope that your craves have simmered down for you. You will
have good days and bad...but, know that it gets better! Anxiety will
always be an ever present factor in everyone's lives...but, nicotine
withdrawal cravings do not have to be a part of it. I am relieved
that I no longer carry that monkey on my back!
Take good care of your quit. Post here, Read here...it helps so much
to get the support of everyone here! I don't post a lot, but, I do
read faithfully! :)

I'd like to respond to all of you individually but I think I can sum
it up...
I didn't give in. I fought it. I went back to my Chantx last night
too. Sorry if i scared pfizer shareholders on here ;-). Will
continue till done.
The resulting analogy from all of your support about taking pills &
withdrawal vs. lung cancer & eternal damnation was spot on. I never
liked taking pills, even aspirin....so why would I inhale toxic
chemicals?! Only the damned tobacco execs can answer that....I cant.
It is despicable how as much as they lie about how smoking "doesnt
cause this" and "doesnt cause that"....they never actually give 1 good
reason to smoke!!!! Is it ok to smoke because it doesnt cause lung
cancer? LOL How dumb! Well...i'm fooling them now. Its my turn.
They can look at their sales charts and see a big fat ZERO next to my
name. Your product is weak with a horrible business plan. If I can
reject your product now, then you are DOOMED. The more I quit, the
longer I live, the more deeply impoverished you will become you sorry
bastards!!!!!!!!!!! And I hope you quit smoking too and have to
experience HELLWEEK EVERY DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!

He also can't walk very far without his leg hurting - so he has a powerful

surgery or not.

(Yes I do. I was wrapped up in self).

Tell DD she'll go thru the same thing should she decide to start

This is great news Kathleen. You must be so happy and he has so much
support and someone on his site who understands how difficult quitting
can be. I am so happy for you.

Today at midnight marks completion of the 4th week (not a full 31-day
month though). No, my libido phase hasn't gone into overdrive yet
either. lol!! I think its a myth or a joke? I have had some "average
days" and some "horribly rotten days". This nicodemon inside likes to
surprise, it doesn't announce itself.
