With the slow demise of USENET, some members of AS3 have migrated
support to a new platform on the web, with the hope of keeping the
support community alive.

There is still support here, but there's a lot of great support activity
at http://www.as3-web.org as well. If you're looking for support to
stop smoking, we hope you will drop by and say hello.

hugs,

Um... no.
But you can come. I'll save you a seat near the dance floor.

I'm safe. I don't dance. Ever.
Sue who won't be going back to AS3 on the web anyway because she
doesn't know who she is.

If you need login help, let me know. Admins can reset passwords and
user names and stuff for people who have forgotten theirs.

It ain't that hard to write your username and password down, and tape it to
your monitor. As you noted, the username and password isn't for your bank
account so you can keep it out in the open and save it wherever it's
convenient.
The additional security keeps out the spambots, crap artists, and the like.
We (the administrators) tried to loosen the restrictions on passwords but
that turned out to be a logistical nightmare from the administrative side,
requiring way too much time from the admins, so it was decided to up the
security requirements to keep the effort medium and the site clean.
Personally, I think it's working quite well.

As another admin on the AS3 web forum I will add that the security as it
is right now is just about right. We've eliminated almost all spam(mers).

The whole objective of the web forum was to recreate the usenet
experience as much as possible with as little admin action as possible.
I believe people are much more tolerant of spam on usenet than they
ever would be on a web forum. The little bit of effort asked of users
is minimal, but keeps the site clean and focused on stopping smoking.

If anyone doesn't wish to make that extra little effort to be part of
the group then that's their choice. We want www.as3-web.org/discuss to
be as inclusive as possible and we will never be able to please everyone.

If you find the new site too clunky to use then we'll miss you.

Apples and oranges. I've owned both, and they are not at all comparable
in the amount of spam and tenaciousness of spambots that try to get in.
Do you really, truly think that we'd deliberately make it hard for
people for no reason other than just because? That's ridiculous.

You're welcome to stay or go or do what you please. But don't pretend
you know something you don't, and don't call me or my friends liars and
expect us to just be nice about it.

Falls under the heading of no good deed going unpunished. It's not like
I expect kudos and thanks or a ticker tape parade for putting the forum
together, but when people do this bullshit it kinda pisses me off.

Plenty of people out here seem to want to tell us how to run it, but
where were they when it needed to be done? I asked three times for
someone to step up to this plate over the past three years, with nothing
but silence. Suddenly now that the hard part is done, everyone's a
critic.

Thanks for having my back, Steve. Packing up my resentments now and
planning to have a nice Saturday.

hugs,

elle

Steve may have your back, but you have my admiration. I love the way you
word your positions from a stance of pure logic. I bet you were hell on a
debate team at one time or another :-)
