When a child looks sick they usually get the care, attention and
support they deserve. However, there are too many children out there
who are having to grow up keeping a secret. A hidden disability, one
such as a bladder or bowel diversion / dysfunction, brings with it a
whole host of challenges. With the words 'wee...' & 'poo' being taboo
in society, children aren't able to talk about their illness and they
are often seen as different. It is hard for any child (or adult) to
endure mutiple surgeries, suffer low self-esteem and poor body image,
but to have no one to turn too who really understands can leave a
child and their family feeling very isolated and alone. Breakaway
gives hope to so many of these families. Finally these special
children are getting the care, attention and support they so
desperately deserve.
