I have searched the archives without success on this question ... does
anyone know why generic coal tar shampoo (generic T-gel) is no longer
available? I used to buy it at Longs, Wal-Mart, KMart etc for about half of
the price of T-gel. Suddenly last winter I noticed it missing from the
shelf at Longs...thought it was a inventory issue. Checked at Kmart some
time later, same problem. Checked Wal-mart, same deal. Check periodically
through the year. Employees are clueless - and usually smirk at the
question. Usually there is still an empty space on the shelf labeled for
the shampoo, but for example that shelf at the nearest Kmart has been empty
for over 12 months. I have checked drugstores all over the state of Calif -
if we take a business or other trip, I make a point of checking the local
drugstores - and NOTHING. It is killing me to pay for T-gel, I know it is
cheaper than many treatments, but WHY is the generic version suddenly so
hard to find? Even on the internet, no generics.

I hadn't noticed ... I'll check my local shelves. I use up a small
bottle about once a year, stopped using it in favor of Head and
Shoulders. I've used generic and T-Gel, usually buy the T-Gel.

Any CVS stores near you? I still see them stocking their generic
version. Found it listed at their website too. Try the following link:

Dunno about the other chains. I never thought Tgel particularly
effective, so I don't look out for it or variations on it much myself

THANK YOU!! I had checked CVS online (no stores nearby) but I searched for
"tar shampoo" not "therapeutic shampoo" so I got no matches to my search.
Cool!! That helps tremendously. I don't know how helpful Tgel is for true
psoriasis, but whatever my scalp condition is (and there is a whole list of
things that Kaiser Permanente helpfully says it is NOT) it seems to help the
horrid horrid itching. Thanks again! (I still wonder what the mystery
disappearance is all about...)

I saw generic coal tar shampoo today at Walgreens (Kent, WA) -- I believe
they called it T Plus. 16 oz. for $4.99 vs. $12.99 for the same size of
T/Gel. The coal tar amounts may be slightly different.
