According to Hayek:
"But you should avoid eating to much, as excess
equals toxins, and depletes antitoxin reserves."
I found this from various sites:
"Evidence indicates that in some healthy individuals, high doses of NAC
(2,800 mg a day) can act as a pro-oxidant rather than an antioxidant,
actually lowering levels of glutathione rather than increasing them.
For this reason, otherwise healthy individuals may want to avoid taking
high doses of NAC until more information is available."
and this....
"Extremely high doses (more than 7 grams) of cysteine should be avoided
because it may be toxic to human cells and may even lead to death."
and so, do this...
"Vitamin C: Ascorbic acid may inhibit the oxidation of L-cysteine to
L-cystine. (PDRhealth.com)
"It is recommended that persons taking the amino acid cysteine take
at least three times as much vitamin C as cysteine to prevent the
possibility of oxidized cysteine forming kidney stones.
N-Acetyl-Cysteine is much more stable and resistant to being oxidized
to an insoluble form. Nevertheless, it is wise to take at least as much
vitamin C as N-Acetyl-Cysteine. (Diabetics should consult their
physician before using N-Acetyl-Cysteine, since it may have an
insulin-blocking effect.)"

Hayek:
"My formula cures chronic bronchitis..."
"Reduce congestion related to sinusitis, bronchitis, asthma, and other
respiratory diseases. Conventional physicians routinely use NAC to
dilute thick mucus, making it much easier to cough up or drain from the
nasal passages and other congested areas. It's often used to ease
congestion in people with pneumonia and other chronic respiratory
diseases. It has even been shown to reduce mucus secretions in people
who smoke or who are regularly exposed to secondhandsmoke."

There are lots of other references to this on the web.
"Prevent heart disease. In some studies, NAC appears to significantly
lower levels of homocysteineand possibly lipoprotein(a), substances
associated with an increased risk of heart disease. As an antioxidant,
it also helps prevent the damaging oxidation--and thereby the
precipitation--of LDL ("bad") cholesterol from the material that lines
blood vessels. More research in this area is needed, however."

He says: "These same essential
nutrients are used by the body to eliminate toxins, as
in household chemicals and even fruit odours..."
I found this:
"Counter environmental toxins. NAC-supported glutathione interacts with
the dangerous byproducts of many toxic substances, promoting their
excretion through the liver. These substances include carbon
tetrachloride, chloroform, and carbon monoxide; alcohol; such heavy
metals as mercury, chromium, and boron; and the microorganisms
aflatoxin and Eschicheria coli." http://www.wholehealthmd.com
Also from Hayek:
"my cure's components can be found in breastmilk"
Here's what's in mom's stuff:

Hayek started his cure for psoriasis pitch with this:
"It started by helping alcoholics recover...."
How about this:
"N-acetyl Cysteine
The stomach and intestines are the bodys first line of defense against
ingestible toxins such as alcohol. Chronic consumption of large doses
of alcohol has been shown to contribute to damage of intestinal cells,
resulting in impaired absorption of essential nutrients. N-acetyl
cysteine (NAC) and glutathione protect against alcohol-induced damage
to intestinal mucosal cells. Upon examination of rats given both
ethanol and NAC supplements, intestinal cells showed significantly less
damage than when given ethanol by itself. Glutathione, an important
antioxidant, is significantly reduced by alcohol consumption.
Glutathione performs similar protective effects in humans."
"L-Cysteine and Thiamine
Both thiamin (vitamin B1) and the sulfur-containing amino acid
L-Cysteine (an important precursor of the antioxidant Glutathione) play
key roles in protecting us from the adverse effects of alcohol
consumption. When L-Cysteine and thiamine were given to rats exposed to
toxic doses of acetaldehyde, all of them survived. A later study by
the same group of researchers found similar results. When rats were
given a near-fatal dose of acetaldehyde, supplements of either
L-cysteine, thiamine, or vitamin C led to survival of over 75%. When
these same nutrients were combined (at lower doses than when given
separately), 100% of the rats survived."
and to prevent hangovers:
"Typical doses of cysteine that are sufficient to block a major portion
of the toxic effect of alcohol/acetaldehyde are about 200 mg per ounce
of alcohol consumed. However, the rapid assimilation and metabolism of
alcohol requires both prior and concurrent dosing of cysteine to
maintain protection. Furthermore, a multifold excess of vitamin C is
required to keep the cysteine in it's reduced state and "on the
job" against acetaldehyde. I use capsules (because they
dissolve fast) containing 200 mg cysteine plus 600 mg of vitamin C
(with or without extra B-1). I take one before I start drinking, one
with each additional drink and one when I'm finished. It works
remarkably well."
Randall has had good results with his whey to increase glutathione
levels. Do you think Hayek just discovered he could take larger doses
of cysteine, say for 10 days, if he added Ascorbic acid? Any one game
to try it?
